Fitech temp vs gauge temp

Have a few learning runs in. Temp has been a concern as gauge has it between 220 and 230.

I took a little advance out of the timing (now 11 degrees initial.)

Noticed Fitech temp is 190 at the same time. Sending units are literally 6" apart with Fitech in intake manifold and gauge in the thermostat housing.

Anyone else seen this disparity?

Yes... Short trips Fitech reads cooler.... Drive long enough they generally will match up. .

Or the fitech is reading correctly (sounds like it matches the thermostat) and the gauge is at error.

Is the temperature stable, as in the thermostat is holding stable tempertures. Or does the temp swing wildly with load and drop severely if you water the outside of the radiator (thermostat wide open and not controlling the temperature)?

Drop in thermometer where? in the radiator? at the cap? That would be on the cold side of the radiator. If it is 205° on the cold side you have cooling system issues.

Any chance this is a fresh engine? I'm having a bad thought that one head gasket is on backwards. with the way both senders are on the intake there is a separation of water coming off each head until they merge right at the thermostat. I would try swapping gauge holes first. IF one side of the engine is running hot, there are problems. If the gauges read the same the difference is following the gauges and not staying with the ports, we are back to a gauge or sender issue. FiTech may be reading low, which it sounds like they are known for.

The FiTech sending units are known to read 25-30* colder than the actual coolant temp. Get a AC Delco replacement sending unit. That will balance out the two.

AC Delco #213-928
