Ok my turn signals quit working-front and back BUT when I pull my emergency flashers on they work no problem.

Any ideas?

They have separate flashers. Swap the flashers and see if the turn signals work and hazards don't. They use separate fuses too.

IF you swap them and the turn signals work, check the flashers. They probably won't. Get a new flasher for them. Still a trip to the parts store, just not as urgent.

OK, I am going to go stupid on this one..

My Bronco does the same...bought a new signal unit for the steering column since the flashers worked..

OK, 73 Bronco..where in the hell is the flashers? I have a fuse tray in the glove box and there is what I am guessing to be a flasher but it is a buss fuse fit..meaning it fits into the buss fuse block and it is shaped like an Omega symbol/u- shape..never seen anything like it nor has my auto store..what is it?

Both flashers are under the dash on the driver's side, within about 8" of each other. The thing in your fusebox sounds like a circuit breaker. I have one for my heater motor.

I'm sure lots of vehicles used just one flasher unit to handle both duties. I like having two in the Bronco myself.
Definitely sounds like a circuit-breaker to me too, in your panel bronco_daddy. Auto-resetting kind resets when you fix the problem. Kinda cool, but obviously more bulky than a standard glass fuse. You don't usually have to carry spares though, like you would with a fuse! A PO might have had a recurring issue with that circuit.

Just about every old car I've ever owned has separate but identical flasher relays... I don't know about 'new' cars, though.

Intermitent shorts are a bear to find. I'd suspect the turn signal switch unless you have loose, bare wires going to the lights.

..i did have a rebuilt steering column put in a year ago & had turn signal issues where the "clicker" made noise as you turned the wheel. They fixed that excess noise about 2 months ago or so. I wonder if there is an odd short in the steering column?

.... Not sure I have all kinds of nasty wires under that ol dash! ;D CB-Stereo-extra plug in for charging--I just hope she doesn't catch a fire. heh-heh;D

You've got to narrow down the conditions when it happens. Sacrifice another fuse and try using the turn signal switch while turning the wheel back and forth and while keeping the wheel stationary. The brake light power may be causing the problem too so try tapping the brakes while you do the above again. I'd do this with the engine off so you eliminate any vibration/movement in the rest of the harness.

Check the solder on the fuse panel if it start to crack and what not it could cause a problem with the flashers. As for a fuse blowing it's most likely a chaffed wire not to hard to find just turn the lights on and moove the wires around that are connected to the turn signals.
