Fuel Tank Advice

Looking to upgrade to a new larger rear tank. Looking at the Toms 23 gallon tank or the Wild Horses tank. Any opinions? The WH tank is SS and a bit more expensive. I will be putting in an in tank pump. I have the Holley sniper fuel pump system that I will be using. Any good or bad on each of these?

Thinking about making my own tank but kind of limited in time.

Right now I have a stock replacement plastic tank. I installed the sniper system and works good but under really hard acceleration my fuel pressure goes to zero so I am pretty sure it is uncovering the fuel pump. Hoping the newer tanks have some baffling in them for the pump.

I can’t speak for either of these from experience, but I can say this. I just installed the BC Broncos 23 gallon tank, and though I do like it, especially the mounting system, there are a few issues that made it a PITA to install that it looks like the WH tank has addressed. The Tom’s tank looks to suffer the same issues as the BC tank. This has to do with the placement of the fittings and pump. I would think that the WH placement center in the recess would make it much easier to install, as you are not fighting so much with the hoses and the frame rail. Also the pump looks to be centered. The pump in the Tom’s and BC tank are on the drivers side. When I am low on gas, I tend to lose pressure making a left turn. Granted at this point I’m very low, but I could see a center mounted pump would be better off road where operating angles can be a bit extreme. I do like that the BC tank has AN fittings for supply and return. The WH looks like you can use those, but need to buy fitting separately? I like the WH sending unit. Looks more robust than the BC. Could be wrong.

Also, I see the WH tank has a drain, which comes in really handy if you have an in-tank pump! If your pump fails, it’s hard to siphon out the gas through the filler, and 23 gallons is a lot of weight to drop full. Every tank should have a drain!

BC tank was a complete waste of money for me, has some kind of peeling stuff inside. So anything great about it is null and void since it’s unusable. Replaced it with the aero tank. I like it but required a lot of clean up inside and out to be able to use.

The extra capacity over stock is enough to be worth it. The rest is just details.

I've seen the Holley Hydomat demo in person, amazing stuff. I used it in my F250 and it will pull the tank dry, really amazing. But I will still recommend a large tank first and if that isn't enough use the mat.

Thanks to Broncobowsher I now know about Holly Hydramat. Any one have experience with this product ? Looks very interesting for my off road build with new WH SS tank.

I have a bunch of customers running Hydramat on their Pro-Touring muscle car builds...Carl at Vaporworx had nothing but good things to say about it, aside from the price, so I don't think you could go wrong heading down that path.

That said, you can get close to the same performance with multiple Walbro pickups (like these) located in each corner of the fuel cell, and probably for a bit less money.

I had to re-read this and pull up the vendor catalogs when I read these are strap mounted tanks.
What's up with this? Those mounting straps got a black eye back in the day when the tanks fell off after the straps got snagged on rocks.
In any case, I think going back to the straps is better than the Uni-Strut brackets on the sides of the previous tanks.
If you want a solidly mounted tank, Aero still makes them with frame mounting tabs.

I'd like to hear about this "evolution" from Toms and Wild horses, since both sold their track mounts at improvements over straps.
