I was putting the tag renewal sticker on my 71 bronco when I noticed the Vin number was wrong. The paperwork had the U15 as a V15 ? I made an appointment and went to the DMV office today. The guy I got was real nice but needed to get help from a supervisor. Supervisor did a deep dive into the history of my bronco. Came back and said " Ever since your bronco has been in Florida it has had the V in the title''. 1987 must be when it moved to florida. "The mistake was made in another state". I asked how do we go about fixing it and was told another title would need to be issued. So they got a Vin inspector out to inspect the truck. He looked at the glovebox door tag after I told him where to look. Checked the vin and verified that the title was wrong. We went back inside, a private discussion went on between supervisor, inspector and the first guy I talked to. They came back and said they would issue a new corrected title, registration and I could keep my tag. Total cost??? Zero dollars. Walked away happy.

Wow thats super simple. In Maryland that would have taken months, would have required letters from lawyers and taken multiple visits and inspections.

Glad you had a pleasant experience.

My roll cage prevents my glove box door from opening very far. When the lady came out to look at the vin, she made some effort to read the vin and asked if the vin was anywhere else, so I told her on the frame. She rolled her eyes a bit and asked if were easy to see. I told her not as easy as it would be for me to stick my cell phone in the glove box and snap a pic of the warranty plate lol. "Perfect" she said lol. Ours has always been pretty easy to work with.

No one ever said, "you know what will make this situation better? The government!" Glad to see that DMV [government] employees acknowledge the nature of their work...

When I first registered my 74' another inspector came up the guy inspecting my Bronco, looked underneath and said, "no cats".
The guy doing my inspection smiled and looked at her and said "1974". It's good to see folks that know what they are doing and set other folks straight.😁

Glad you managed to get it resolved rather painlessly.

Had the same issue (V15 on the title) with a Bronco bought out of Maryland. Since it was from out of state, Loss & Theft division of the DMV requires frame inspection before a title will be issued. Brought the Ford Shop manual along showing all Bronco VIN number ranges start with “U”. Inspector made the correction in his report and a new registration was issued along with the title.

Of course this all took place after UPS lost the title for 6 weeks.🙄 Had planned on registering the truck before picking it up and driving it home, but had to trailer it back since I couldn’t get tags without the title.

Wow. glad you got it fixed. Once the DMV figured out they all start with U. they were pretty good about fixing it.

That would have never happened in Kalifornia, It would have started a major ordeal (can of Worms) that would have lasted for weeks...

I am glad it worked out for you as it did Bax!

Good for you Roger. That could have been a lot worse and aggravating.
My 78 was tied up for 6 months when I moved back to NC. Georgia screwed up the vin no. when I moved there in ‘94. I didn’t catch it. I moved to Oregon in ‘97 and the OR DMV didn’t catch the error either. (So I’m two titles deep with the wrong vin). Moved back to Georgia in late 2000 they finally caught their original mistake when I registered it and issued a corrected title, BUT someone forgot to delete the incorrect title from the system. When I moved to NC in ‘20 the DMV said my truck had two titles and two vin’s. I had to wait for a state inspector to come and verify the truck and the vin. Wow!, that was a mouth full.

At a "FLORIDA" DMV?
Amazing.
They once gave me weeks of issues over whether an I was a 1 or an I on a vin.

The Florida DMV in my area (Walton County - NW FL Panhandle) is the absolute BEST! I had a similar 'typo' issue and they worked it out immediately. On top of that, I did not have my Bronco with me when I went to register it, so I could not complete the registration process without a visual inspection of the truck and an odometer check. Their solution: 'don't worry, here's your plates, we will send a deputy sheriff over to your house when you get home, and they'll do the inspection'. Sheriff was there inside 45 minutes, received all the reg/title documents in the mail in a week. Let me tell you, after dealing with the DMV up in Detroit all my life (the surliest, laziest, most ill-tempered workforce on this planet), I can't believe I waited so long to live in the FREE State of Florida!
