I had the same problem when I first purchased my Bronco, the PO had dual flowmasters aft of the WH Headers.
the driver side exaust would heat all the fuel lines and vapor lock would stumbel the motor often once up to op temp.
I went with a two into one exhaust down the passenger side Two x 2.5" inlet, One 3"out. this eliminated my vapor lock issue. a straight through Magnaflo muffler sounds great, I didnt' notice any power loss.
I kept the lava heat shield from the mechanical fuel pump to the carb.
I also kept the header wrap aft of the muffler to protect the poly fuel tank.

Steel lines help.
2 into 1 exhaust helps.

I run both. All my rear wiring, fuel lines, and brake lines run down the driver side. With the 2 into 1, the exhaust on the driver side is no where near the wires and fuel line. It's also a lighter and simpler exhaust setup.
