Getting Those Pesky Front Fender Screws Out

Anyone have any tricks for getting those pesky rear fender screws out--the ones sandwiched between the door and the fender when the door is open? I should probably pull the doors but don't want to at this point and the phillips heads are stripping due to the rusted nature of the inner front post. Wish I had an extractor socket that size.....might bite enough.

I welded a nut on mine and was able to use a wrench on them.

I had to use an impact screw driver. Beat it with a hammer and they finally came out. Not enough room really so I took the door off anyway.

PB Blaster, impact driver and heat worked for me. The heat was the kicker.
Once you have them out a little ways, grab on with a vise grip. They're short screws.

Sounds ghetto, but use a large screwdriver with a crescent wrench on the squared end for torque. Lay your body against the end of the screwdriver and turn the screw out with the crescent wrench. Of course heat and PB Blaster beforehand makes it easier. Good luck!

Thanks again guys.

BTW, I've already visited the ghetto on this one. No dice.

Works every time for me. I do heat the crap out of them with a propane torch first. The impact driver started denting the metal and didn't budge the screws!

Yeah, I've had that happen to me as well with deformation of the sheetmetal, especially if it's rusty behind.

Drill them and use an easy out. Of course when I did that with my hinge bolts they just broke clean off. I suppose you could re-tap them as a last resort. If yours is like mine, one whack with the impact driver and it folded like a dollar store lawn chair.
