Can the bad bearing be replaced or should the whole axel be replaced. Thanks very much.

You can replace the bearings. I had a machine shop remove mine and press new bearings in place for $70. They also polished the axle where the oil seal sits. Unfortunately it looks like they missed the fact that my drivers side is bent, so I'm doing it all over again with new axles. Wild horses has them with the new bearings already pressed on, just slide them in and go.

Hi, yes the Ford 9" bearing can be replaced. Make sure the new one is correct for your rear end (match it up). You do need a shop press and a bearing splitter. I'm sure you can see it on you tube. Good luck

A couple of choices you can choose from.
1. Buy a set alsready put together but be prepared for shipping prices
2. Buy a 20 ton press ($150) from HF and press on ur new axle bearings
3. Buy the bearing and pay someone $70 to install one

I chose to borrow a friends hudraulic press and in ten minutes I was done. A month later I bought a HF 20 ton hydraulic press for $150. It's worth the investment.

The H.F. press comes in handy for lots of pressing chores... :)
I'd recommend it.

As Ron said, multiple choices for your axle.

First, what year is it? And if you go by the vehicle year, are you certain that it's the original axle?
You can see some of the info you need here: http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/category/bronco_rear_axle

If you don't know for sure, there are charts showing the flange offset so you can measure to be sure.

The next, and most common issue is the size of the bearing. There were two sizes throughout the years. Just called "small bearing" and "big bearing" and yours could have either one.

When you get it out you can measure yours, and may even find a part number stamped into the ring. That'll tell the tale on bearing size better than any guessing from outward clues on the housing and brakes.
