Welcome Elielizabeth!

This discussion came up on another theft deterrent thread. I purchased one with a sim card and a monthly subscription, but others said it loses it's position if parked underground in a garage. While I haven't installed mine yet, it comes with a mapping app that tracks where it is, so even if it was parked underground, I'd still know where the garage is. Does yours operate that way too?

I use trackmategps.com. you can wire it so it can remotely shut off the ignition and the fuel, as long as you have an electric fuel pump. Other than that there's different plans depending on how much you want to spend. I've been using it for a few years now and it works great. It comes with a built-in SIM card, has an on-board battery that's good for 3 Days in case you lose juice. Worked down in Mexico when I was there. And you can change the plans depending on what your needs are.

It's a 4 wheel line lock that works with a cylinder key. You can mount it where you want it but you have to plumb the brake lines thru it. I mounted it on the dash. If I want to use it on the trail I just leave the key in. May not stop a flat bed but should stop the thrill riders. You cant buy em anymore. The guy who made em passed away. The owner of tsm tried to make a deal with his widow to produce em but she wasnt interested.

I guess this is where air brakes would be a good thing. With a hidden release valve.

I have had the very same concerns.... I honestly had nightmares also...

The day I finished it and took it out in public, was the day I got this (below)... So many people take pics of it and video when I'm out and about...I had to protect my investment...

As a result I have this, hard wired in mine somewhere and can confirm its location and track it within a few feet of its real time location...on my phone or any computer... It has geo fencing...so when it is moved outside your prescribed fence...it will send you alerts on your phone...and track its movement...in real time...

I pull it up once and a while, just to check up on my baby... : )

This company has a very reasonable monthly fee that is well worth the peace of mind for me...

I had a friend in high school (25+ years ago) with this device in his Toyota Cressida. Push brake pedal in to pressurize system, press lock button in, turn key, it's done. The car had been his father's commuter into NYC, thus the system.

I'd been looking for the same thing; now I know the story about why I haven't been able to find it.

Mine came with the UglyTruck theft deterrent system. It works on the "so ugly no one would steal it" principal. It's very difficult to uninstall. I've been trying to remove it ever since I bought it, with limited success. Monthly service fees are the lowest of any anti-theft device, but removal can be costly if you ever change your mind. It also comes with the "no one ever says nice jeep" feature.

Prior to beginning the uninstallation process.

I legally use GPS trackers (4G) to track vehicles in the course of my business . Yes, if it is a multi-story parking garage it will often lose signal. I have that happen a lot down in the city where there are large parking garages. Its no big deal though because it will show its last ping outside of the garage or close to it and you just have to drive or walk through the garage and find it. That being said, I would be very surprised a thief would steal an EB and park it in a big parking garage. I mean why? A decent GPS will have no problem showing inside a warehouse, residential garage, carport, etc.

As far as jamming, some GPS will send an alert and last ping when they detect jamming. I would think that most thieves would not be using jamming technology to steal a 50 year old vehicle with a rollback tow truck. If they are, its probably gone regardless of what measures you take as far as line locks, fuel shut offs, etc.

I would assume a keyed brake line lock could be defeated with a pocket knife in about 2 seconds. Unless it is set up different then I would think, a quick cut of 2 brake lines and you would come back to a puddle of brake fluid on the grounds as it was towed away.

Spoken like a true alarm salesman. Not sure what brake lines you're running but if a pocket knife gets thru em you might want to upgrade. Yes hard lines can be easily cut but the thieves/repo guys I've run across come more prepared to deal with alarms and electronics than mechanical deterrents like a club or brakelock. Like we've all said if they want it they'll get it. To me the money would be better spent on good insurance than an alarm especially if said alarm comes with a monthly service fee.

Where did I EVER say an alarm system was effective or even worth putting on any vehicle? Alarms are basically pointless. I am not an alarm salesman, I am a private investigator and slide under cars with OEM alarms on them all the time and slap GPS tacking devices on them (legal in SC, other states have various laws). I was talking about user installed GPS tracking devices for the recovery of the vehicle if it was stolen as being effective option.

As far as mechanical deterrents like line locks and clubs, that is hardly going to stop any half assed tow truck operator. in 2 decades of law enforcement I saw a whole lot of vehicles drug up onto a roll back with no keys available (column locked, effectively a club), or the transmission in park, or no access to the inside of the vehicle because it was locked, even vehicles that didn't have a single moveable wheel and sitting on the frame as the result of a crash.

Insurance is great, to get you some money. But I think the OP was more concerned about deterrent/recovery options like a GPS tracker.

Just a footnote, if I ever find a tracker on any of my vehicles that I didn't put there IT WILL NOT SURVIVE.

Lol, I agree with you. Its just another billable business expense. But generally speaking, by the time you find it you have already been caught. Unless, of course, you haven't done anything, which is great...but then you really need to reevaluate your relationship with the person or business that actually hired a PI or themselves put a tracker on you (that is illegal in some states for unlicensed people) because they don't trust that you are not doing something sketchy.

Bump.

Was able to get a discounted price on LoJack for $495, but only on the regular version and they don’t sell the “classics” version.
