Here's the deal. My 25 yr old power steering pump went out. I don't have time to update to the Saginaw type pump right now. The bronco is at a shade tree mechanic 's house and I bought a Cardone replacement pump for him to put on. The deal is my old pump reservoir was clocked in order to move the filling spout to the 2 o'clock position to the right because the Bronco has always had a York ac compressor that sits above the power steering pump on a bracket. The mechanic told me he could clock the new Cardone pump reservoir if I got a gasket o-ring kit. I got one from O'Reilly's and took it to him. He called me several days later and told me he couldn't get the reservoir to seal. I went to go check it out and he had bent the lip of the reservoir on the new pump (apparently with a screwdriver) trying to get it lose to put the kit in and clock it. He told me to get another power steering pump but I'm afraid he'll do the same thing to it again trying to loosen the reservoir to put another o ring gasket kit in and won't be able to seal it good. Any tips on how to get the reservoir off the new one in order for him to put another new O-ring kit in and press the reservoir on good to get a tight seal? Right now I've voided the warranty on the Cardone replacement pump and I'll be voiding the warranty on this new other one I've bought due to it being clocked. The mechanic who clocked my old pump reservoir without any leaks has passed away so this new mechanic needs pointers.

If the reservoir lip is damaged then your S.O.L on getting it to seal with just the O ring. There is no pressure on the reservoir so if it were me, I would use the O ring and RTV to seal it up.

Only other option is to find a used reservoir. Saginaw upgrade is not time consuming. I think the vendors sell a complete bolt on kit.

They are not hard to get off. You just have to be careful doing it. I take the nut off the back and use a wide screwdriver to pry against the lip of the tank and the mounting bracket. If needed you can remove the bracket and use a wooden block against the lip and rubber hammer with the pump standing up on its end. Make sure you do it evenly or the tank will hang up on the threads of the output port. Don’t put pressure on the pulley or you can damage the pump.
