help me diagnose a fuel problem

I've got an intermittent problem with fuel delivery on my 73. On the steep hills around where I live the Bronco keeps cutting out and dying. Seems to be fine on level ground. I've got two new sending units for the tanks to put in, but what else should I check? The fuel line itself (pinched somewhere)? The carb? Fuel tanks filled with crud? What else? This is driving me crazy because it doesn't happen all the time. It's inconsistent. Anybody else ever have the same problem? Thanks ahead of time.

My choke was sticking recently and when I would hit a hill or even a good size bump with some speed, mine would die. I turned choke down it got better. Then adjusted floats and all good. Not sure if thats you, but.....

What carb are you running? Has it ever been rebuilt or tuned? When it cuts out, does it lose power suddenly, or does it fade? Does it blow black smoke? Do you have a fuel filter? How many miles/years on it? Is its housing clear? Have you ever dropped the tanks? Have you filled up at a different gas station recently? Did the symptom appear just after a fillup? Do you run any fuel additives?

I think what's happening is, because the PO garaged it for awhile, it's got gunk in the tanks that works into the fuel system on hills and when the tanks are low. So I'm going to check the tanks first, then the lines and pump and carb. I know this is a problem when Broncos sit for awhile.

Is the float bowl spilling over flooding the engine. When you get back to level ground do it start right up or do you have to clear out a bunch of fuel out of the motor?

:cool::cool: If this is happening when you pull a hill but works good on flat ground look at the plug wires. Have had this happen a couple motors they leak under load. Replace with good wire not import junk good luck.:D:D:D Bill %):D:p
