What I’ve learned is to asses how the dent occurred and try to reverse the process.

Clamping to the table keep you from over bending. Then you do it again with paint stick on each end to adjust spring back as necessary.

tailgate dent

Mine was about that size on my 75,my friend made a home made pry bar to reach in the hole then heated that area with a torch and worked it out. That metal is about .046 thick if i remember, it came out good.

I decided to go about it my own way, whether it’s right or wrong. I cut an opening on the inside wall so I would have access to both sides of the dent. Then I proceeded to go at it with a big hammer until it was pretty flat, and then tried my hand at some body dolly work. I ended up putting a 5/8” brass rod into the rib and hammered on the rod to bring the dent out of the rib. Worked really well. I put the torch to it to try and shrink the metal. I also welded up the latch holes, as well as holes from snaps from the old soft top, and ground it all back flush. Definitely not perfect, and probably not professional methods, but I think it came out well and will work great with a thin coat of filler.

I still need to weld the inside cut section back in.

Looks good! Now you have access to the inside to POR15.
