Horse power disc brake kit

So I finally took the plunge and bought a disc brake kit. After a month of comparing kits and making sure they had the same parts or lack of said parts so I was comparing apples to apples I went with horse power sales of eBay.
Don was very helpful and asked the questions that needed to be asked. He made sure I had all the parts I wanted and or needed. He even included that bolt and washer for the stock hubs as well as a good selection of brake fittings.
I ordered the base kit and added a prop valve. It was very well packaged, labeled, and complete. Here is what I got. This is the passenger side and I have another pile the same on the driver side.

So I tore every thing apart and as usual the only pain was the brake lines. But a little penetrating oil and they came off without incident.

Following the instructions, which are very good, I started with the spindles, caliper brakets, and what ever that ring thing is!

The instructions even come with torque specs so no guessing there either.
Packed the wheel bearings, tapped in the grease seal in the back and simply bolted everything in place. If you can change your oil you can put in this kit.

I left out the prop valve part for now but it too dropped into place. I'm going to do my hydroboost now because I hate bleeding brakes so there will be a parts two.
I'm sure all the vendor kits are just as good and shipping is a HUGE deal on this type of kit because they are heavy so keep that in mind as well. Hope this helps some of you that are curious about how simple these are to install. Basic hand tools except for the hub nuts that use that large four pin socket. I did all this in about three hours.

Did he build the kit with Bronco Calipers or Thurnderbird Calipers?

Neither, that is the GM brake setup on a set of Ford rotors.

How is the caliper to knuckle clearance? Did you have to grind much off the knuckle? Have enough room for the caliper to slide in as the outer pad wears?

It is based on the Ch**y kit. I'm guessing I got lucky with my Dana 30, I had tons of room and did not have to grind anything. I kept looking at the directions and picture included but I had at least 1/4" in between the suspected area.

great thread and info. I NEED to do discs on my 67. Not only does it help but it also helps the value if you go to sell it.

Doghows .. Do you happen to have the numbers off those spindles. Calipers. & the rotors .. I'd like to have numbers for a different brand of the spindles.
. & I was going to ask if it fits the Dana 30 & 44 both but I guess you answered that question.
.. & Can you reuse your locking hubs on the outside. I can't see why you couldn't usless you just want new ones.
... I did this swap on 2 but they were about 7years ago . But I'm trying to piece together a kit for my 68.

the best price on hubs and rotors I have found is 65 each on rock auto, not sure how good they are yet since they will arrive soon.

Call Don at horsepower sales on eBay. He'll have all the parts available in kit form or separately. Prices can't be beat either. I research this for months while I saved the cash and you can not piece a kit together cheaper than what you can buy from a vendor.
Don will hook you up call hm.

That's the kit we used on the '68, no problems at all.

Kit was $599 plus $80 to ship. I added a prop valve for $80 more with braket no ship on it. So roughly $750-780 to my door.
Plus he added in extra brake fittings and the bolt and washer in case I was reusing my factory hubs which I am. Oh yes it also arrived two days early!

I've heard he was good to do business with.
.. I did my 1st 2 from the wrecking yards .. I really still think I had about 300 each in them. .
... I've got a set of spindles & backing plates .. But one of my spindles is weak. I'm going to keep searching for the hub & rotors sets. no .2491 ..
If anyone has a big bearing spindle I can turn it down. So let me know.
