Ok, another transmission question for you all... what are your thoughs / experiences with the Borg Warner T5 transmission? It seems like it is readily available and for reasonable prices. Can it be adapted to work with the Dana 20?

Thanks.

talk to 72Sport about this, he has one. you have to use a mustang front case, a jeep tailhousing, then TRY and find an adapter. in the end it'll cost almost as much as a NV3550. also the T5 only has a 2.97 first gear.

Not quite as strong as other transmissions and adapters will be hard to come by I dont believe anyone makes them anymore. They didnt hit it off big because they are fairly weak. You may be able to find someone selling there old setup for cheap if your patient. But I'd go with something else.

I had a T5 in my first bronco. I should have kept the darn thing but my buddy begged me to sell it to him. He only had it a month and then rolled it. You have to run low gears to really use 5th. I ran 4:11s with heavy 33s and I could only use 5th on REAL FLAT ground. It shifted nice and was awesome for a daily driver. I ran it for about 60k miles and no problems. I got great mileage when cruising too.

I loved where the shifter came through the floor. I could really bang through the gears.

Oh, the memories of the back seat fun I had in that bronco before I was married.

oh yeah, forgot. 5th gear is a .63 overdrive instead of a .78. jerry is running 31's with 4.11's.

Not sure but I think od is around .75. 5th is all Jeep. You left out the 13.9 mpg with the ac on. That was about 60% fwy and the rest around town.

The 94/95 T-5 has a 3.30 first gear. I have this trans in my 65 fastback. Be careful of the 94/95 t-5 trannys because the input shaft .625 of an inch longer than all the other t-5 trannys. The 94/95 is rated at something like 300 ft lbs of torque.. There's only one other factory t-5 stronger and it was rated at 330.

T5s have been around a long time - 2 main varieties - non world class and world class (the switch was about 1988). The earlier non world class are rated to about 265 ft/lbs of torque. Like bronco 73 sez - some of the later boxes are rated to about 330 ft/lbs of torque (better bearings and synchros). There's ford versions and gm versions - 6 cyl and v8 versions of each, but they're not necessarily interchangable. I picked up a ford v8 t5 on evilbay for a couple hundred. I've seen rebuilt boxes from about $450 to $1450

Summit has a T5 rated at 500 ft-lbs with a 3.27 first gear and .68 fifth gear ratio. That would work well with 4.88 gears and 33's. You probably wouldn't even need to use 1st on the street.
