Funny, I was thinking about it the other day. I got an e-mail back from the guy on the website and he said that he had taken all the pictures and written the article and it should be on their website soon. Haven't seen anything yet.

I was using the rake as a hood prop rod before I installed the gas pressurized hood struts. Man those things work great and they were relatively easy to install. My truck is still not drivable. I am now hoping for Christmas. I installed the wiper motor and all of the linkage last night. I snapped a screw off that set me back 3 hours to get the correct drill bit & tap. I finish the install tonight and then on to the interior.

You're definitely over thinking this one. The AX-15 will work but it is definitely not stronger than the New Venture unit. The AX15 and the R150 trans are both made by Aisin-Warner and use almost the same internals.

The New Venture 3550 is more than adequate for your uses with 31 inch tires and a 302. So yes, I think you're over-thinking it. My buddy has beaten the crap out of his full width TJ with a 3550 for years and has had no problems with it.

Here is everything you ever wanted to know about the AX, NV and R150-155 transmission:

I say go with the nv 3550. You can find replacement parts at any transmission shop. Cause this was also a worry of mine before I made the swap, and also I seen about 4 wrecked tj in a junkyard with the nv3550 in them. The transmission is a daily drive. It doesn't shift as smooth as other transmission like the top loader 4 speed, but it doesn't have that huge truck feel like the np435 , or nv4500. But you can run threw the gears really quick if you want to have some fun.
