D30's have smaller, oblong-looking chunks, and doesn't have ball joints, but king pins. If that doesn't help, see if there's a tag on there, D30's had a slightly different ratio than D44's (most all D44's were 3.54 or 4.09) If that doesn't help, shoot one of us a pic & we'll tell 'ya.
I guess the 44 has a castle nut on the top of the king pin, whereas the 30 has a plate with 4 bolts. By king pin i mean the vertical shaft that you wheel rorates left and right on. Hmm, sec lemme look for link. Here ya go. http://www.broncohio.com/tech/dana30dana44.html
