Hydro-boost brakes with explorer front dress

Guys,
Has anyone tried t-ing the return lines together before entering a fluid cooler and then returning the fluid to the reservoir ? I have experience with hydro-boost but used a dual return Saginaw pump. Before getting the dual return pump I tried the t in the line and could feel a little twitch in the power steering when brakes were applied. Not sure that was all the fault of the T and maybe could have been more attributed to using the old factory PS pump to start with.
Just want to know about your opinion or experience with running the T prior to the cooler. Thanks JLH

I run Explorer front dress with std parts store pump, stock steering box ported with ram assist, Astro van hydro boost, cheap fluid cooler in front of radiator and 37" tires. Cooler is plumbed between steering box and reservoir with the T in the run orientation. Hydro boost return is plumbed into the branch of the T. I don't recall felling anything odd when brakes are applied. However, after a few hours of hard wheeling the fluid will get hot and steering becomes somewhat harder. Brakes have never failed me though.

I talked to the Lee's Steering guys about using a tee, and "they say" to avoid using a tee because of the pulsing nature of the hydroboost as it will restrict the fluid coming back from the PS box, and will eventually cause the fluid to overheat. They prefer a dual return tank, and of course they sell them! One mans opinion though!

I've always been told to avoid as much restriction in the hydroboost return line as possible. the cooler is a restriction. The flow from the hydroboost return is minimal. Really not enough to need cooling. The flow through the steering gear is probably 99% of the flow. That is what needs the cooling.

Why not just T the return hose after the cooler? I have HB and Explorer pump and dud just that. My only problem is a pesky leak!

I used a T in mine originally and it caused intermitient but severe brake drag. I ended up adding a second return on the pump and ditching the T. No problems for the last 15 years or so...

Ford also has made and used dual return tanks.

The ones used in the diesel Super Duties and Excursions around late 2003 through 2007 work great in a Bronco with power steering and hydroboost since the original trucks came with both.

found a new one on ebay for 60 bucks. I like this reservoir idea better than getting one that fits stock location on exploder serp.

I have one.

Did you drill the holes for the grommets and feet on the bottom of the reservoir to fit on the fender? what fittings did you use for the small hoses on the reservoir? I have a reservoir now.

I used the L bracket that went with the reservoir. It's bolted to the firewall and the reservoir slips into it.

I used compression fittings (AN tube adapters) on the small tubes. First I cut the flared end off the tubes then strengthened the tubes by inserting stainless tubing (i think 9/32") inside. This prevents the plastic from getting crushed by the compression fitting.

I'm putting mine up front, the bracket seems pretty sturdy. Any reason you guys see to not put it here?
