A couple guys on here were asking what an inspection was. I’m not sure about the inspections in other states but in MA they’re pretty strict. You have seven days fro the day you buy a vehicle to have it in for an inspection, if you get caught without an inspected vehicle you get a ticket and fine and then after it’s been inspected you have to have an inspection once a year, it has two components emissions and safety, luckily our eb’s are exempt from the emissions part because they’re older. The safety inspection consists of the following that I remember but there might be more:76 explorer said:what the heck is this thing you call an inspection? ;D hey at least its an easy fix right?
Lights – all the exterior lights have to work, blinkers, parking lights, etc. Your high beams get shot up onto the wall where they have this grid set up and the lows have to be in a certain part of the grid and the highs have to be in another part of the grid. If you fail this part they’ll usually just adjust them. If any of the blinkers, or reverse lights don’t work you fail.
Wheels – they jack up your car and really give a good shake to your wheel assembly, if it’s loose you fail.
Tread – If your tread is too thin, you fail
Brakes – They have you put the parking brake on and put the car in drive and press the gas, if it moves forward you fail.
Windhshield – if there is a crack in your winsdshield bigger than the size of a dime, or showing signs of cracking outward, you fail.
Your horn has to work and your windhshield wipers too or they’ll fail you.
There might be more but I think that’s it. If you fail you get a big rejection sticker on your windshield and have 60 days to fix the things that didn’t pass and get a new inspection. It can be a pain in the a$$ but it does keep the roads safe.
