When this will become a stand alone and if it will fit... This is the new cummins 5.0 V8 Turbo Diesel which is in the Nissan Titan. It is also being made as a commercial production engine. They said it is the same size as modern V8's and is designed as a direct replacement. Very interesting... 275hp 560tq

I have used the B series 6 cylinder Cummin's engine in loaders, trucks, and commercial fishing boats. Maintenance cost are about the same as other brands, fuel comsumption is about the same when comparing engine spec hp & tq, however the Cummins engine historically are about 30% less initial cost to buy.

I can see one of these in a Bronco :)

I was at Correct Craft world headquarters the other day.
Working in the R/D dept., where they take your phone from you when you walk in.
They had two of those engines, color matched, and going in a Air-Natique boat.
Huge boat about 26+ feet long, really tall, dual stern.
Like a Ski Natique on Steroids after a nuclear holocaust.
Those two engines were going in.
It also looked like they were doing some kind of warranty work or something. Or just purposely damaged for testing purposes.
I knew I had not seen those engines before....it was a trip to see them here after being told they were "top-secret" haha.....

Amazing place. I get to go to all kinds of neat places for work.

If you Google earth, Correct Craft World Headquarters You will see that they are in the middle of no where.
I engineered the quality control inspecting/testing program for all of the construction aspects of the project a few years back. Back for some post c.o. inspection and testing.

Wish I could test those engines back at our lab.....

I read in another article that this one is 400 pounds lighter. It's designed to be a replacement for a v8. Not sure what it weighs. The other article describes how they shaved the weight

Isv5.0 is the commercial version

Very cool! I had a Ski Nautique for about ten years. A really amazing company with a lot of history. Pretty much a family business for 75 years. Now back to the topic.

They installed one in a dodge or Plymouth car in the 4 wheel Peterson magazine for what they called an apocalypse vehicle. The 5.0liter cummins has been out for a while now in other vehicles.

Nissan rating is 310HP and 555 torque.
Bellhousing is a standard SAE #3, which is how Fred from Dirt Everyday managed to get it to mate to an Allison transmission.
Big and havy they are. All the turbos (yes, 2 of them, non-sequential, parallel flow, staged.
They are remarkably tall, probably close to a foot taller than a tradtional small block. That's not counting the top entery air intake.
Not as heavy as the 6-cylinder, but man are they still heavy. I forgot what they quoted me for weight when at the Cummins booth at SEMA last year.
Performance wise, 300 HP is about what a stock 6.0 made and what cummins was making at about the same time frame.

It will be interesting to see when a stand alone controller comes out for this. Until then it isn't a viable engine to swap into anything. And when it is swappable, More of a full size market. The performance numbers look good but the weight and hood clearance just isn't going to work out very well in a Bronco.

I got to see this engine a cpl yrs back at Con-Expo in Vegas. It's impressive from an engineering standpoint; however, I'm interested to see how it holds up long term. It's a dohc engine with aluminum heads and a compression ratio of 15.5:1. I realize that the Isuzu Duramax has aluminum heads, but timing is still gear driven. When I saw that 5.0l Cummins, I saw a maintenance/rebuild nightmare with way too much to fail over time. I've not personally explored this, but I would think an ISF2.8L or ISF3.8L would be better options. They are sold with stand-alone controllers and are 28.5" and 31" tall respectively. I think you can still get the 2.8l in the Tier III package which would make it a little more attractive as it wouldn't require def.
