All ideas are welcome. I keep coming back to the idea of building a custom grill that stays in place. I've always like the idea of a grill made with stainless bar.

Also, for anyone who is not sure what I'm working with, here are some pics of the flip over front clip and its design over the years.

Would making it closer and trimming the grill help? Duno just randomness spewing from my brain. Lol
And I really don't have time to be building a new grill either... SMH. and now there's a two night sprint race in Texarkana that I can't even offer to push cars at because I don't think I can have this thing back together by then. SMH more.

I can get a little more clearance by removing the cable tensioner on my HF (Highly Funded) winch. Thoughts?

I'd remove it, they are more of a PITA than a help for what we do. They belong on a wrecker or trailer where the cable pull is always straight.

So apparently I’ve got a patch plate covering up a hole that I need that is somewhere under the red x. I’ve been thinking the bolt at the end of the mounting bracket would go thru the steering box.

Found it. Drilled one 3/16 hole to get an idea how far off I was, then the second hole missed the center just a touch. Is i used a 5/8 or 3/4 hole saw and barely caught the bottom edge. But it works! Now to figure out if the thing will even pivot past the top rear of the winch….

Or should I change the pivot direction and use something like the original hood hinges to raise the hole front clip like the original hood? @Yeller

If that gets it high enough I don't see why it wouldn't work unless it tries to push the hood backwards before coming forward, which it doesn't look like it will.

Just go to ocbr hood and fenderless, it won't overheat that way LOL.

I’ve thought about showing up naked. But dad came down and we looked it over. I think I’m gonna cut the center out of my bent up grill and just do the simple, short double hinge I was gonna do starting out. It will require a new cross tube above the belt. A little work and no time to get it done.

Got a plan and I’ve got motion.

I added a new cross pipe to replace what I’m going to cut out of the bottom of the grill. That’s right. I’m cutting the center out of my grill like I’ve told Dad NOT to do to his for several years. He wants the fenders to flip up and out of the way too.

I need to find something smaller for turn signals because these are too long. Probably headed to the local Napa in a few minutes yo see what they’ve got.

This is what I found in town. I guess it’ll work.

Doing some bracing before I start cutting the old main support (which has everything to locate the grill as far as height goes. I’d rather use the old location than have to remeasure all of it.

Got the hinge mocked up. Now it’s time to duplicate the locations and start welding.

Stopping point for today. I’m getting close to the point that I should’ve ordered my linear actuators last week. (That should be read, “I SHOULDVE MEASURED AND ORDERED THEM LAST WEEK.”) I’m about lose time waiting on parts… but maybe I can start working on the rear locating mountings. The old hood pins are going away. Here’s some pics to prove I actually did something. Sure wish I had a plasma cutting table and the experience to draw all these parts up. It probably would’ve helped in the design too!

@Boss Hugg , I am more than a little impressed with your dedication and analytical skills to undertake this project. I have a friend who did a tilt bed on a pickup truck and it was pretty cool, but it was a simple affair compared to what you’re doing. Gotta give you major props.

thanks. Its the rattling of the multi-pieced fenders, and the trouble of getting the quarter turn fasteners tight that probably pushed me over the edge. A few years back, @SpareParts was guiding me up a trail and he tried to warn me, but I pushed a tree out of the way with the end of the grill. Since then, the left headlight has never been able to be aimed correctly, and the hinge moved slightly so that it was worse to get those fasteners even in the holes. So the goal is to get to where I can put heavy duty fiberglass parts on and in one piece. But there's a lot of moving parts...

More progress. A little forethought would be saved an hour today.
