Locker question

from a stop, turn your wheel in either direction as far as it will go, let off of the brake, and give it a touch of gas as you drive in a circle. if you feel a tire grabbing the pavement along with a "gripping" or "chirping" sound, you've got rear lockers. the point of a locker is to provide an equal amount of torque to both tires. if you are driving in a circle then normally the outside wheel turns faster than the inside because of the greater distance it has to travel. with lockers, they spin at an equal speed explaining the chirp or gripping sound/feel. does that explain it? i am fairly new to broncos and hard core 4x4's myself so there may be an easier way or a better explanation from someone more experienced.

Jack up both rear tiress at the same time. leave the transmission in park or gear. try to spin a tire forward.
If the other tire spins backwards = open diff
if the other tire spins backwards, but it takes almost everything you have to do it, posi (factory option)
If you can't spin it at all, and a friend can spin the other backwards with some clicking noises as you hold the first tire forward then you have a detroit locker.
Posi/limited slip diffs are fairly common from the factory. People often call them lockers, that is a hold out from some marketing hype several decades ago. They are really just a posi, even if the build sheet says locking differential.
