Found one and will be going to look at it today. My understanding is it does fit the SBF engines if you drill out the bell housing bolt holes.

Anything else I should grab off the truck/F150? Guessing the T-case does not work in the Bronco.

Shifter, throwout bearing, clutch slave cylinder and push rod anything else?

You do NOT want the flywheel. That is a 0-balance flywheel, the wrong balance for the small block. If you have an engine built to accept a 0-balance flywheel you really should be getting a better flywheel than a junkyard one.

I'll be putting it behind my current W and guessing my current flywheel and pressure plate/clutch will work.

Trans is still in the truck but truck don't run. $350 for trans and all the other bits for the clutch.

Check the rubber plug at the back of the transmission (shifter area if I recall correctly. They fall out and the transmission runs out of oil. Metal plug fixes it and won't fall out later.

Dorman 555-108 freeze plugs for shift tower. Grab the shifter, boot and the rubbery mount/seal under the boot. That screws to the floor and seals the hole you have to cut for the shifter. Correct on drilling the holes. Throwout bearing and slave cylinder are one unit. Just get a new one. BC Broncos carries the braided hose to go from the clutch master to the slave. Grab the plug that goes into the reverse switch. Current clutch and flywheel are good with this transmission.

Spot on. My reading points to that being the weak point that gave the trans a bad name. Also read the syncros go bad. Not a good way to check them as the truck don't run. I plan to dump the fluid and look for metal before starting the removal.

Went to another yard and found 2 but they were 2x4 so no taco bueno. Got a quote of $250 plus a core which I don't have so $300 me removing it. That said I guess the $350 isn't that bad for the one I was looking at. I still have to remove it.

Guess I'll go look at it later today or tomorrow

Is the T-case useable? Per my reading it's too big to fit between the Bronco drain rails bit then I also read that it "could" be used with some clearancing.

Hope to look at it and get the trans this afternoon.

No.

Also a slip yoke transfer case which makes it loooooong. Run out of room for a rear driveshaft.

Every pic of "clearancing" I've seen needed to be redefined as "hacking";D
Most of the modern chain drive cases are too wide for EB frames.

Thanks for the info on the T-case. Just don't want to leave anything behind that I can use.

I bet a BW1354 or BW 1350 would (Explorer, Ranger, & Bronco II), but they are the RBV 5 bolt pattern 25 spline input. No advantages over a Dana 20 (2.48:1low vs. 2.46 or 2.34:1), but not bad cases though.

Just a side note if that trans doesn't work out you can use earlier M5R2
Mazda trans. I got mine from a 1990 f250 with a 302 in it. The shifter is further forward but you can use the top from a later M5R2 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. It is fairly easy to modify the shift forks to engage the space in the trans. The first pic is the original shifter and the last one is from a later 2wd. Shifts very smooth. Good luck with your conversion.

At work back in the 90's we had atleast 8 to 10 F-150's with the Mazda 5 speed in them. We initially thought they would be weak/junk. Between all of those fleet trucks we easily put millions of miles on those 5 speeds....never did break one.
We had a couple F-250's as well and the ZF is a completely different kettle of fish. Clunkier/Truck like trans. Shift throws that could be measured in feet not inches.
I realize it's a big strong transmission but the Mazda tranny is a pleasure to shift and feels like a sports car tranny compared to the ZF.

Not looking to go manual but would definitely consider the Mazda F150 tranny of the 90's.

The 97-08 4.2L trans is supposed to have the shifter that moved back 2 inches. That's the reason I'm looking at this one.

It's in the weeds on the side of a hill so told dude he had to drag it out of there so I could pull it. He gave me the option of bringing the whole truck home and pull the trans in my shop the return the leftovers to him. He's about an hour away an it sure would be easier in my shop. May go drag it home tomorrow if I can borrow a trailer.

This is the trans in my truck. You will need to drill the bellhousing bolt holes larger. Its held up for 4 years now behind a healthy 347 and and almost 30000 miles. Recently replaced the luk clutch with a centerforce dual friction. 1 inch BL helps.

Good to know Joe. I knew about the Bell housing needing to be drilled. I got a 1 inch BL so everything should work out.

I'll have to deal with the whole J shift T-case but I can overce that.

Hope to have the trans today. Going to trailer the whole truck to my shop and pull the trans and take it back.

Don't drill the alignment dowel holes oversized. Those are what aligns the transmission input shaft in a straight line with the crankshaft.

Well it's out. I tell you what I must have done something wrong in another life. What a day of issues.

Started with me being stung on the hand while hooking up the trailer......hate wasps
