Hidden rust found and a CL find..

I found a NOS rocker for a 66-77 (looks to be from 1986) that is in great shape. Had to get it. I will use it if it is needed but wont know until after media blast. Also, I was looking at where my windshield frame sat and it hit me. back in 1994 my dad and i got rid of the piano hinge as it was messed up and he welded a flat bar to the tub and the windshield frame back to it. At the time there was no rust but we did the job very half a$$ed. I had already ordered a stainless hinge as I wanted it back the way it was meant to be but forgot about that strip of metal welded to the body. I remember a few years ago that I was getting a lot of water in the floor when it rained and now I see why. water was definitely getting in both here and from the cowl (which you can see was swiss cheese. So Saturday I proceeded to cut off that bar and found more of the dreaded RUST. both the underside of the metal strip and the channel are rusty. Looks like I need to now replace both the upper cowl piece and maybe the windshield/hood mounting piece as well. UGH.. Just when I think I am getting closer to finding the center of the onion..... Frustrating.

Update.. finally

Wow, just realized I have not posted since January on this thread. Are there unfortunate Bronco brethren still subscribed to this?? If so, sorry, but don't worry, it will get interesting now. I have decided to get some professional help (on the Bronco). Here are a couple pictures of her as we loaded her up and headed to LICK CREEK RESTORATIONS in Ceres, VA. I had some amazing help from Patrick and Ron Fogle getting it down there and would be lost without my local Bronco friends. It is SO exciting to see things finally moving in the right direction. Tom at Lick Creek is mainly doing the body and paint work along with some other custom touches. He may end up helping me with some of the drive train as well depending on time and of course "budget". I also was lucky enought to ride in and drive "The Duck". What a beauty.

Some updates after media blasting. Nothing surprising all the nasty spots were already known at least. I hope to have some new metal pics fairly soon. So excited to see progress! She is in good hands now!

THE "WHILE I AM AT IT" BUILD! :) Ressurected from deep in the grave.

Btw that red you see is factory primer. My media blasting man used a plastic media and if the primer is stuck good it will leave it. He could have jumped to aluminum oxide and got it but it is not worth the expense. Hoping to have yours on the rotisserie in a month or so for some new metal.

Just swapped 2 tubs around today to try and push things along since I have a 77 that needs a lot of attention and a 76 that needs very little. Gotta keep pops busy in the body shop and I can only cut, fit, weld and grind so fast...

A little sneak peak at what yours will be looking like soon.

I found a motor to build.

I finally found a cheap. local GT40 Explorer motor. It is a "P" from an early 1997 but I am using Edelbrock heads anyway so those will go back up onto CL. I have decided to also sell of all the EFI stuff. I know, I know, many will say use it but I just prefer to go with Fitech based on people I trust saying it is great and also for under hood cleanliness. I also like having the little handheld controller that puts a lot of info at my fingertips. Already making plans on where to put it/mount it. That being said, I will probably have the complete EFI system for sale on the classifieds soon. It has the ECM, harness, and everything else. It was hilarious hauling the motor in the back of our minivan, but worked pretty well. Nice low loading height, plenty of room etc. I just laid a heavy tarp down and prayed that no fluid would spill and my wife would spare my life. I saw the Explorer dive into the garage before he pulled it and seems in decent shape. I am pretty much only using the block and front dress, and selling off the tranny, EFI, heads etc..

Let me knock the dust off of this thread.... PROGRESS!

Well, thanks to the talented Tom Hyde at Lick Creek Restorations, my Bronco has FINALLY turned an important milestone. The last of the nasty cancer is gone and he is now putting on fresh, clean metal!! I know, we are still a long way from getting her back on the road, but without his help who knows when, if this would have ever happened. I had to be honest with myself, I know I wanted to do "everything" myself, but I lack the tools, time and talents to do what this truck needed. Tom has been absolutely amazing in working with me, my "budget" and his time to get this project rolling again. I can't tell you how excited I am to see things moving again and so happy she is in the right hands now! So here is some pics of the last of the tear down and the latest with some new parts being fitted!
