Here are the pics of the '72 Explorer Sport in copper Met. that Sbolt19 had mentioned. Notice the Ginger striped/plaidish seats and the door panels that are much like the Sport door panels with the silver on top. If you look closely you an see the Explorer Emblem on the glovebox doorand the Sport Emblem on the fenders. Wimbeldon White dash that usually had black dash pad.

Hope that helps,

Yes mine is a late 72 build, it is titled as a 72 but it has more 73 bronco stuff on it. The color is 73 as well.

My neighbor has one of those 73 coper metallic ranger sport explorers with the different seat upholstery. Unfortunately they were re done in black.

interesting thanks for the scan. I have a 73 Ranger late 72 build no Ranger emblem on the dash Tshift PS and Auto tranny in copper metalic. It appears that in 72 the explorer trim was supposed to be that one color but with everything else there seems to be some inconsistancey in what came out of the factory. I would almost say the the 72 explorer package was a precusor to the Ranger package. Just hard to say as I have 73 factory brochures that make no metion of a explorer package.

O K , the scanned info is in my gallery, so check it out. One odd thing, standard bronco got a "cigar" lighter and a sport/ranger got a "cigarette" lighter, so much more class! lol

I've got a 72 Durango Tan Sport/Explorer

Blue71, I have that exact rig sitting in my driveway. I was always confused about the sport emblem on the fender and the explorer badge on the dash. Now I know!!

By the way, the list of options you provided was right on, the only you missed (I think) is the swingout tire carrier.

Thanks Blue, My 72 Sport Explorer looked exactly like the copper one you posted when I first got it. Now I'm kind of sad, I probally should have left it that way?:?
