I am finishing up my y pipe and I am going to need a muffler. I want something quiet, like our expedition quiet so I can actually hear on the trail. I need to order it with the mandrel bent 2.5" tubing so I don't pay shipping twice. Any advice is appreciated.

I have yet to find a muffler that meets your needs. At least in the aftermarket performance muffler market. Best bet would be to get a standard off the shrlf replacment muffler. Find a real uiet vehicle with a large engine (your expedition for example) look at the muffler and see if it would fit under the Bronco. then put one of those on. All the performance muffler companies do the same thing, sell sound.

Where are you planning to have the exhaust pipe exit??

I run a Magnaflow 12616 which is 6 inches round by 14 inches long. I have it exiting out just infront of the rear tire, it is fairlly quiet, but prob not as quiet as you want.

You might want to look into the magnaflow 12646 it is the same muffler, but 18 inches long. The extra length should make it quieter.

Might be something you want to look at.

The expedition muffler is huge and won't fit.

Don,
I am exiting behind the rear wheel. I will look at the magnaflow muffler.

I bought the biggest oval mufflers I could find that would fit under my 78 bronco. ( I think they were for a big caddy) I took a bigg screw driver and punched a few holes in the internal baffles to make them breath a bit better and they were very quiet.
I just went ot a local muffer shop and asked the guys if I could measure a few mufflers for my truck and they let me look around until I found what I needed.

I have similar problem. My Flowmaster 40s are getting very old... One my neighbors, who is pretty into muscle cars, runs caddy style (stock caddy) mufflers on his 80s Mustang with a 347 to keep it a sleeper... (Funny someone else on here mentioned them as well.) Like others said, get the biggest muffler you can fit and that should keep it quiet.

It might be hard to find something quiet in a 2 1/2" size. How big is the muffler on an explorer? They're pretty quiet and a lot of other explorer parts seem to fit on broncos well.

I am looking for one also. I looked under my truck and I don't think a bronco is that long from the engine to the rear bumper. If you find something, let us know.

I've got some cherry bombs you can have. hehehe

I think going with a stock muffler would be the way to go, if you want it that quiet. I've got one from an 04 F-150, but it's HUGE!!!!

In a couple week I am looking at getting a stock replacment muffler for a '76 caddy with a 500. Looks like it will be 2½ in and out in a decently compact package. Maybe I will have it installed in one of the projects by the end of the year.

If you're looking for quiet just go to Midas and have them put on a stock spec muffler and tail pipe. I did this on my 74 stock Ranger and its pretty quiet. Just don't ask them to do anything different from stock!

As for my trail rig I went with a 2 in 1 out reversed Magnaflow. It's quiet until you give it a little throttle! ;D
