Need exhaust routing options

So my 74 has longtubes with flowmasters that dump right before the rear axle. Sounds great but the fumes with the top on are pretty bad. The way its currently ran I could easily run over the rear axle but the rear shocks are directly in the way. Anyone run their truck without rear shocks? Would it be too bouncy? If I run the exhaust out both sides before th erear tire would that cure the fumes inside the cab even with the top off?

It would absolutely not cure the fume issue.
Now, depending on the rest of the bronco, it might improve things. But there have been hundreds of Bronco owners that have tried that only to find out that it didn’t work as expected.
There is really only one location on a bronco that helps get rid of the fumes 90% of the time. And that is angled outward to the side from behind the rear tires.
If you go straight out the back, it’s just as bad as dumping it underneath or in front of the rear tires.
And passengers usually don’t like the way it sounds coming out the sides. You said it already sounds nice, so I don’t think that would bother you. But if you have anyone in the family that rides with you regularly, dumping them to the side in front of the rear tires usually gets annoying quick.

And no, you can’t run without the rear shocks.
Normally, you would never eliminate a damper to accommodate exhaust. The other way around, maybe, but don’t get rid of the shocks.

I'd sacrifice exhaust tailpipes before shocks. dump it a passenger side rear corner for best results.

After I just got done fighting dual exhaust (drivers side pipe and muffler) to replace body mounts and then trying to run new fuel line and keep it away from the exhaust I’m about done with dual exhaust anything new will be 2 into 1. As for routing mine dumps behind rear tires at a 65 degree angle and no fumes.

Find a local exhaust shop that does quality work.
Now that I’ve gone to a large diameter 2-1 with single muffler, you’d be hard pressed to talk me back into a true dual system. Mine dumps above the rear axle and slightly behind the passenger side rear tire. No fumes and you can barely see my exhaust tip.

Mine is very similar to this. Ditched the duals with long tubes and went with shorties and a 2 into 1 with an exit in the general area as yours. Not only does it look much cleaner, I like how how switching to a magnaflow cancelled the drone.

It took the exhaust guy some bending but got them to come out on the corner facing down. NO exhaust smell even with the top off.

I took mine to an exhaust shop and had 2 - 1 with 2.5inch exhaust installed. They insisted that the exit point face straight out the side behind the rear wheel (not angled). I added a turn-down tip to keep the black soot and slimy exhaust off the garage cabinets, but other than that it works awesome - no exhaust smell in the cab and I run a bikini or soft top year-round.

I guess it’s true that everyone’s Bronco is different to some degree. The ‘72 I had previously had long tube headers and pipes dumped in front of the rear tires. Yeah, it WAS loud but I never noticed exhaust fumes with top on, off or with a bikini top and I never heard passengers complain…they may have, I just didn’t hear it. Lol.
The ‘77 I’m working on now will have a half cab so don’t expect there to be a problem with exhaust fumes and both my wife’s and my hearing is worse, so noise levels will not matter.
