Need Help Choosing Tires

So I have a '68 redone by Dan Jones at Bronco Connection (story I'd rather not get into) that we picked up in March. I've already had to get new tires and wheels (didn't have to do the wheels but figured it was a good excuse) because the ones he put on were too big and rubbed the front of my rear fenders since it's uncut. What was on it was a set of 265/70R17 BFG A/T KOs.

Now, after it rained a little and I've had to drive through some mud, I've gotten stuck twice since I put some 235/70R16 Hankook HTs on.

I'd like to know what you guys would put under an uncut with a 1" body and 2.5" lift. Looking for something that has some tread to it but is still mostly going to be used on pavement. I'm thinking about going to plain steel wheels (hubcaps if i want them), but I can't find any definite source on what width "stock" wheels were.
Thanks for any suggestions

Pic is what I'm running right now

Stockton Wheel in California for stock looking wheels.
A set of stock hub caps were recently for sale here on CB.
I prefer the BFG All Terrains.
Very good on the street. In the rain, and on the trail.
Excellent all around do everything tire.
They look "right/classic" on a stock eb too.

WH 2.5" SL and WH 1" BL

I'm not big into the uncut Broncos , but there is something about a stocker running really luggy tires, such as the KM2's pictured above, that really looks cool.

Go to tirerack.com and search truck tires maximum traction or all-terrain for a good list of whats out there.

Here is 31X10.5-15 , off road max traction , on/offroad all terrain & on/off road commercial. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...formance=ALL&width=31X&ratio=10.5&diameter=15

I included commercial because of the goodyear duratrac , lots o' love for that tire.

kick out the Kuhmos , dumlops and Generals , and you have a damn good selection there.

That is a very good looking rig,but those tires look like street only for a sedan or something, you need something with some tread like what mustang2 has,the BFG is a great tire either way you go,the ATs or MTs,and with a 2 1/2 sl & 1bl you should have no trouble whatsoever with a 31x10.50x15 on a stock wheel, good luck,

That is the same suspension I will have on mine. I've got a set of late model dodge half ton steel wheels that are a 17x7 with 4.5 BS. I plan on running a 265x70x17 KM2s on mine. I hope they don't rub? I better do a test fit at the tire shop before I buy.
Love the Bronco I hope mine looks half that good when I'm done.

So ksbronco, what width were the wheels, and with what offset? This might help.
Looks generally like you have a fair amount of clearance both in the front and top areas (or is that the 235's in the pic?), so when was it rubbing? Only on extreme maneuvers or when loaded up with family or friends in the back? Or all the time?

And I assume you found it was the front and not the top, based on rubbed off paint? Any paint rubbed off in the other areas too, or only the front?

Anyway, just wondering all this in case just a new set of wheels will minimize your re-investment and still cure the issue.

Good luck.
And like the others said, NICE BRONCOs in this thread!

DirtDonk,
My biggest concern has been the offset and width. I was in a rush after finding the cracks in my fenders (yep, on the front side) and just bought smaller wheels without checking offset. I believe what I'm running now are 16x8s. The picture I posted are the 235s that I'm running currently.

The rubbing happened if I put really any flex on at all. If I hammered the pedal it would roll into the fender and rub, and if I had anybody in the back. It's definitely a nice truck, but I still want to be able to go through a ditch or not have to worry about rub while doing some easy off roading.

Have you thought about moving your axel back one inch?Quite a few people with lubrs do it for that very reason. You may want to scroll through the lubr threads and check out their setups. As far as tires go,I think it would look good with some type of tall skinny grips.

What size are your stock rims? I can't find a definite answer to what size "stock" is anywhere.

I am not an expert. Many on this forum are experts.
I believe the original "Stock" wheels were 15" x 5.5" (5 on 5.5).
Most will NOT recommend putting a tire on a rim that is >2" larger. (Width)
For example, a 30 x 9.5 x 15 is acceptable to put on an 8" rim.
I bought my rims used. They are not the original wheels. I honestly don't remember the actual size.
I know...not much help. Sorry.

Cool bronco! And in Ta-Town!!! Find the Wichita classic broncos group on facebook and come join in! I went to a first little meet and greet near downtown and met a ton of cool EB'ers here in town. Last week was my first time around them. We hope to do more!!!

Do you still have the 265/70/17s?

They fit on my 69 with the same lift combo you have with a 17x8", American Racing "Baja" wheel with 4.5" Backspacing. This combo was close but did not rub at all.

Orange Bronco in my Garage.

31/1050s will fit as well with an 8" wheel with 4" backspacing. Yellow Half Cab in Garage with 3 1/2" suspension lift only.
