As most of you know, the early 66 shifter boot is unobtainable. I can't believe some vendor hasn't had it reproduced. I have looked all over for something close and came up with this, a Jeep Wrangler TJ shifter boot. I have it mocked up for now. It will have to be trimmed under the metal boot ring. I am working on my 66 to get it as original as possible and need 2 one for T-shifter the other for PTO. I know there are ones who have perfect 66 shifter boots who will think this looks cheesy... but for us that aren't so lucky, what do you think...(Yea or Nay) TIA...I depend on you guys to be honest...;D

I think it looks really good. Until someone steps up and repops the original, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I need to order me a couple of those....

There's a '66 shifter boot on ebay right now, no bids yet, bidding starts at $79.

I saw that one, the 2 I have are just like it...dry rotted.
Rumor has it that a member on here is going to be reproducing them, or at least checking on it. I believe there is a big market for them.

Good find. I have NO problem faking it. I grew up helping a boss restore GTO's to national champion quality. When I saw him 'faking' something, I called him on it. His response was "Whoever fakes it the best, wins."

The 66 stuff market seems big, if you hang around here. But in reality, compared to Mustangs, Galaxies, etc, Bronco production numbers were minimal. Add that it only applies to 66's, and 66 restorations, at that. It makes the market for 66 specific stuff very small, relatively speaking. For perspective, I think only about 25k Broncos were built in 66 (correct me if I'm wrong), there were 1,000,000 Mustangs made from 64.5-66 model years (18 months of production).

Short of an OE find what else can you do? I think it looks damn close to be honest. Clean up the plate and see if you can get it down one more fold and you have a winner!

I think that is a great alternative to the dry rot original we are stuck with for now. Only a few in the crowd that will pick it out as wrong!

you could make the plate wider, go down one more level, and keep the install holes in the same place. Looks like a better than all but NOS to me.

I was told this is a '66 boot ( when I bought it) but everyone in Colorado says their's is different than this?
It just looks a little wider at the base, side to side.

I took the advise of Fatboy and Brian, and took it down one more fold, and trimmed. I think it is as close as you can get. I bought this one off ebay for $10. They have plenty on there.

Can someone send me the measurements of the Bottom row, and then the hole opening dimensions? I may be onto something

Yes, darn hard to get ahold of. I opted for cutting down the J shift boot from Tom's. (just the part that goes under the plate). Wish I could get the correct motor mounts too.
