Six speeds are starting to get more common, but not a lot of options yet it seems.

If the sniper can control an automatic transmission, the Ford 4R70W is probably the easiest and most common. Does require electronic control, but most any good modern transmission does. They’re all controlled by their native power control computer, and maybe the Holley does too.

I should have specified, that the 4R70 (as the number implies) is a 4-speed overdrive automatic. Not the 5 or 6-speed you're looking for. Those are generally not a direct fit on to an older Ford engine, and require an engine adapter. Then you have to adapt it to the transfer case either way.

Lots of discussions about it, and other modifications. Don't have any direct links for you to follow, but I'm sure others will. As well as there probably being discussions about one or the other transmissions just in the first few pages of both Tech and Chat sections here.
