So after a lot of work today... I start it and hear a crazy ticking sound... After stewing for an hour and then actually tracing it... Fan was hitting the shroud... Pain in the ass...

Anyway- still have the no start with O2 sensors plugged in... Smells like too much fuel... just dont know whats up, but it runs well without the O2 sensors installed...

Look at the O2 connector wiring. Maybe some pins got crossed. Compare it to this: http://www.oldfuelinjection.com/?p=6

Also may want try just plugging in one and see what a KOEO test says. The two sides may be crossed.

Rechecked codes this morning and I get a new code 26... MAF sensor out of self test range.

If I am not mistaken- the MAF does all the work on start up. I guess this could cause the cylinders to flood... Causing a no start? Why would it only do this with the O2 plugged in?

And now it started just fine.... With the O2 sensors. No time to mess with it today, but it is quirky...

Cleaned the MAF (it was a used unit) and plugged in the O2 sensors. Besides a slightly long serp belt (max adjustment and squealing), the truck runs good... Even though it is a little louder than I expected...

Couple of things to note...
-I probably need a slightly higher stall on the torque converter... I went with stock 1800ish rpm.
-At WOT I think I may have a little rocker arm rattle... May need more adjustment.
-Trans doesn't want to shift into 3rd... Gotta check fluids
-I need to pick up an overflow bottle for the radiator as well.

Put 50+ miles on it around town today. Was fun and even ran into another EB!

So the whole O2 problem was a dirty MAF?

Congrats on having it ready two weekends early :)

Thanks!

Not sure, but it was very inconsistent... When I pulled the MAF, you could see the grime on one side. No problems since. She takes a couple of spins of the starter to crank, but fires up every time now.

Still have some cleaning up to do and miles to put on her...

You driving or towing to TN?

I'll never forget j.blakesless story from last year ... less than 50 miles on the new engine (new truck for that matter), dropped the kids off at school and drove south from NY. Windshield wipers and a fuse for the heater were the only things he had to stop and get. Damn that gets me even more ready for Super Celebration!

You probably already know this but stud-mounted adjustable rockers are almost always noisier than the stock ones. Better to run near 1/4 turn to 1/2 than 3/4 or more. Trial and error.
I've been watching your build thread here for awhile and I'm glad your up and running. The motor looks and sounds great!

Great story for sure... I am not that brave... I have a trailer and will use it. A C4 trans, 37" tires and 4.56 gears make for a long ride on the interstate!

Thanks for the complements. This has been a fun project for sure.

I definitely hear something akin to a rocker rattle at high RPM... With the springs I have and roller rockers, I shouldnt have any valve float.

Here is some proof of this story.

Sorry for purpetuating the hijack.

Truck has been running & starting fine since the other day. Thought I had fixed the problem...

Went out tonight and started the truck- no issues. Drove it in the back yard to wash it. Get done washing it and go to fire it... It almost fired and I let off the key... Now it won't restart. I hadn't checked anything yet, but it's just f'd up.

The last time I had the no start- the truck was sitting slightly sidehill with drivers side down... Just like it is sitting now... I can smell fuel, so it shouldn't be a pick up problem and it's not overcoming so I don't think it's flooding. Going to check the plugs first...

So... Spark plugs look fine. Not wet slight smell of gas. Pump relay comes on, I can hear the high pressure pump... I pull the power to it and can hear the low pressure pump...

When first put the fuel pressure gauge on it, I got nothing... Having troubles with it though, the print in the Ford adapter split... No fuel leaking though.

Funny part- had wifey tow me out of the back yard next to driveway. Let it sit for an hour while I screwed with misc stuff. Boom fired up. Let it idle for about 5 minutes- cuts off by itself. Gas tank about 1/8 tank, smelled it- not great. Run up the street, get 5 gallons refill... Boom starts up. I get it turned around and headed to the garage door. Put it in park, get out and it died again will not start. WTF?

If either of the pumps were bad, would I hear them run?
