New crate engine

Planning on pulling the trigger today on a new motor. Have it narrowed down Blueprints 347 or there bronco edition 302. Not much of a cost difference between the two. Will be mated up to a NP435 with 4.10 gears and 33's. Thinking anything has to be better than this old tired 302 that is currently in there.

Reading good things about there new 302 block.

Any opinions on one over the other?

I have the new block 302 and like it so far. The shipping is done really well and crate is very secure. Motor started and ran nice and strong. Minor adjustments at carb. Couple minor issues but easily resolved. Don’t have any miles on it yet but should be on the road soon.

Well I was pretty much set on using Blueprint. Mainly for warranty and price point. They only offer the 408. I am not against that but this is my wifes daily driver and she has an extremely heavy foot....
Do the 302. It will have enough power but less chance of issues with a heavy foot in the long run.

As much as I like displacement, I've never liked the packaging of a 347 in that short deck engine. Maybe fine for a toy, but not a daily.

Pieced it together.

I made the black metal tray below the filter element to keep header heat away.

Like the look and the tray! Nice job.

Are your valve covers tall? Looks like it but just wanted to check. I'm running the tall covers to clear roller rockers and have found they get in the way of other parts as most mods do..... ;)

I panicked when I could only find 1 more 347 available and got it from summit. Ordered yesterday and showed up today.

Glad to hear people are happy again with the Blue Print Engines. I know a few people had issues in the past.

This is on my bucket list for my Bronco. The 57 year old 289 has been punched out too many times to be rebuilt again and is getting tired.

My only gripe is I waited nearly a year for my engine to arrive after it was ordered from BP.

What do you think the weak link is going to be in this setup with the added HP? I have been slowly upgrading things over the past year.

31 spline rear nodular case with daytona pinion support , chrome moly axles and truetrac, tom woods driveshafts, dana 20 with WH extreme output shaft setup twin sticked, NP 435, centerforce dual friction clutch, front rear is newly rebuilt with spartan locker and chrome moly shafts, toms trail TRO terminator steering setup, WH hydroboost kit, Running 33's with 4.10's. Swapping in a TDK frame in couple days. If its going to break my wife is for sure going to find the weak point.

Probably still going to be the Dana 20 output. Next in line would be a driveshaft u-joint or an axle shaft possibly.
The 31 spline shafts are pretty tough, and the tires aren’t overly large. But a heavy foot on the street where there’s lots of traction, and you’re usually in 2-wheel drive, puts a lot of stress on things behind the transmission.
Literally everything behind the transmission.

Even the transmission can break of course, but a 435 is especially robust if it’s in good tight condition.
Has it also been gone through?😉

Well the 347 fired off great and while still open headers sounded awesome. Timing was at 12* initial and 34* total. Now I am assuming I am wayyyyyy rich at idle. Burning the shit out of my eyes at idle. Turning my idle mixture screws in helps but I am still gaining vacuum and I am only open about 3/8 of a turn at all 4 screws. Thinking maybe I need to adjust air bleeds?

Just curious if anyone else ran into the same thing. Came with a 670 holley street brawler on it.

Goes in for exhaust tomorrow. So excited...
