New float already cracked

I put a plastic float in my auxiallary and its already cracked after 150 easy miles. Has anyone else had this happen? It still floats, not leaking, but the crack is almost completely around the unit. It must have an inner float....but this doesn't seem right having it crack. Maybe go back to brass? I don't know how to post a pic. Thanks for your input.
