How much body lift does that require? What happens if you don't attach the t-case to the frame? Is the crossmember not strong enough?
BTW
How much is a used UNrebuilt NP205 worth if it's been sitting on the ground for a few years? I've found one locally, but the guy wants $200, and he doesn't know if it works.
IMO, you do need to attach it to the frame. It was clear, when I put mine in, that the unsupported weight twisted the whole drive train towards the drivers side, not to mention what the engine torque would do to further twist it. One good bounce and you could probably crack the tranny housing, without the frame support. I used the other method, but both should work just as well. I was going to do it like Bax, but didn't think welding a stud to the top of the frame would be strong enough and wasn't too keen on a putting a hole clear through the frame, without capturing the bolt with tubing. I'm not an engineer, so my way has it's issues too. I have a 2" BL less would make it more difficult, but not impossible.
Every locality is a little different, but the yards here, that will pull things for you, wanted $200-$250 for a pulled NP205. I pulled mine myself and it was $125 plus a $25 core charge. Pulling it at the yard was not much fun, because I was by myself. Definately plan on bringing a very strong friend either way. Yard prices have gone up some since I did this. Also, plan on that same strong friend when you put it in. I ended up with mine sitting on my chest for about 20 minutes, until my wife came home from work. You can only bench press those things so many times and I'm getting too old.
