NP435 to NP203/205 doubler questions

After reading the numerous posts on the subject I have a few quick questions in hopes of speeding up the process. I’m still trying to piece everything together.

After reading the NP435 swap article in the tech section it looks like I need the 2wheel drive version? Is this correct?

I can purchase a Ford 205 out of a 78 Bronco for $150 locally. Is this what I’m looking for?

I’m still looking for a Ford 203. What should I be looking in?

Basically I’m trying to get everything together before I purchase the adapters.

Thanks,
Jaromy

If you have Wildhorses new catalog (that came with the latest Bronco Driver) it has some good information on the doubler set up, and where to get the right parts.

I have that catalog, I must have missed it.

It's in the section with the transmissions and the adapters. I was bored over Christmas and read the catelog.

I know the Ford 203 came in late 70's Fseries with automatics. I'm not sure if they were available to bolt up to the 435's. If you did find one you might find the stock adapter and the 203/205 setup would be too long for an EB. The adapter for the 435 to 203's are like 7-8" long alone.

Usually the 435 is bolted up to the 205 which has a 31 splines. Wagner Machine or Off Road Design would be better to help you with what 203 to use with a 435. The reason for the 2wd 435 in that write-up is to get a 28 spline shaft for the stock D20.

The setup I have and the others were refering to in this thread is the Dodge 203 to D20 that Wild Horses sells. You may try contacting them to see if they would sell you the adapter for the 435 to Dodge 203 along with the new 435 shaft (you can get either the 4wd or 2wd NP435 since you need to change the shafts anyway) then get an adapter for the the 203 to 205 from Wagner or ORD.

That is the correct tranny and 205. But you need the 23 spline input Dodge 203. Or swap a 23 spline input into a Chevy range box, they are very similar. The hard to find Ford 203 is only needed for the C6 doubler.

435-203-205

I did this same swap not to long ago. Wanting to stay with all ford parts (its just the way I am) I was able to use the following:
4wd NP435 out of 78 150
NP205 out of 78 F-150
NP203 out of 70's truck (can remember exact)
Dodge 435 main shaft cut and reslined by Jeds Machine shop
Short 435-203 adaptor from Jeds Machine shop
Cut and resplined 203 tail shaft from Jeds Machine shop
Short 203-205 from Jeds Machine shop
I would definitely recommend Jeds, he is great to work with and does some really nice work. http://www.jedsmachining.com
I have a ton of pics of all the pieces if you want to see any, here one if it all together.

I used Jon at Jed's also. Awesome guy to work with. I had him respline my 435 shaft to mate up to my Dodge 203 and had him respline my 203 shaft to mate up to the Ford 205. I got his 435 to 203 and 203 to 205 adapters. The hole set up is only about 1.5 inches longer that my stock 3 speed/D20 set was.

I don't know exactly how much longer it is than stock because I never had a stock trans/t-case. But I my guess is that crawln68 is right, about 2 inches longer.

I got the ford 203 and 205. Now I am just working on the 435. When I get it done I will set it aside for the next build. I've heard nothing but good things about Jeds.
