I'm doing an install of the nv3550 and checked the bellhousing clearence of the old 3 speed input shaft length and compared it to length of the nv and found about 1/2" difference do I take off that much? Just dosen't sound right to me.

TIA Mike

I took off about 3/8" on both of my 3550 inputs..
1st pic is the 3 speed
2nd pic is the cut off portion of the NV
3rd pic is the final result on the NV
I believe the instructions call for 1/4" if I remember correctly...

i took off roughly about a 1/4 and dont forget to change out ur poilt bearing ( thats what i belive its called at least) its pressed into the crank and since ur nv3550 inoput shaft is a different diameter ull run into problem in less u change it.

I did probably .125 to .25 and did not have any issues, I would do more than less so you don't have to pull it if it did bottom out. :)
