• There was a time when SUVs were for plowin’, carryin’, and muddin’. There were no rear DVD players. There were no ventilated seats. Make no mistake, the original Ford Bronco was—is—that kind of SUV. It’s a brick with a windshield and wheels, with an interior that looks like it was stripped of everything valuable after someone parked it on the wrong side of town. That rawness is why you can pull a Bronco onto the beach—or, hell, the moon—as easily as you can pull it into your driveway. And why it’s so beloved. “People give it a thumbs-up wherever I drive it,” says Shaun Bryant, who’s selling this jacked-up metallic green ’71 beast and runs Rocky Roads, an L.A.-area Bronco restoration shop that happily adds a few modern upgrades, if you want. Because raw is great, but no one should be stuck with AM radio.—D.D.
