Oil pressure and amps on a 5.0 swap

Hey Guys,

Brain pickin' time. The Turd has the 5.0 out of the Explorer. What leads off the factory harness are for the oil pressure and temp, as well as the amp draw for the alternator...

Thanks in advance!!

There's a 3-pin flat plug (it's red) coming through the firewall near the rear of the driver's side valve cover. That contains a red-white wire for the temp gauge, a white-red wire for the oil pressure gauge and the ignition wire.

Not sure what you're asking about the alternator. Possibly you want to use the ammeter with the explorer alternator? That is a bad idea. The stock wiring can't contain the amps of the 4g. BC has a good diagram here: http://www.bcbroncos.com/4g alt.pdf

You need to swap out the oil and water senders off the old engine. The sensors are matched to the gauges, not the engine. When you take the old engine out, they are real easy to find. Just put them on the explorer engine the same they came off the old engine.

You pretty much have to abandon the factory amp meter when going to a high output like the Explorer. Besides pegging the gauge (which won't really hurt it) the stock wiring was questionable with the low output when new. The stock wiring will not take a high output alternator. You need the direct to the battery feed.
