Been following this thread and all it is doing is bringing back bad memories of hydro/fluid and thermo dynamics fom 50 years ago. I thought I would never use these again! But yet here I am again on Classic Broncos reliving yet another. One the positive, I have learned more about "core" plugs than I would have ever dreamed!

...Which makes the cavity smaller.
That's a common mythconception. ;) But I bet even AI will tell you that a cavity in a heated expanding object also expands at exactly the same rate as if it were solid material. And if you consider that the block can be hotter in the middle and cooler at the edges, then you also have to consider the coolant being cooler at the edges, which throws off your coolant expansion calculation.

But the cavities expanding was my point - the liquid expands, but so does the Iron/rubber/brass container. So the issue of coolant expansion causing pressure isn't as simple as your first calculation - you have to subtract some of that pressure for the block/hoses/radiator expansion.

What James was getting at, and you seem to have missed, is that the cylinder walls are warmer than outside surface of the block. The cylinders will have grown more than the outside walls due to the thermal differential, so the coolant jacket volume has slightly shrunk. I'm quite sure that it is not by a lot, but it IS there.

I know that you're going to object to that and try argue it, and I really don't care what you think.

I have more questions than answers.
