Power problems in Second

Hoping you guys might have a little input on an admittedly vague question. It seems that every once in awhile, when I really gas it hard in second, I will lose power like the engine wants to die. It begins to cough for a second, and then after I let off the gas for a few moments, it usually resumes running very well. I am not even sure what specs regarding my truck may be needed to delve into this little problem. Maybe something to do with my carb, fuel pump, etc?

Sounds like either carb issues or ignition issues. How long has it been since a full tune up? (adjusting carb & looking at dist cap, wires, plugs, timing, etc)

I had that feeling once before. Can't garentee this is what is happening, but...

Fuel filter was clogged. (could also be a weak fuel pump).
Af lower power demands the engine got enough fuel past the filter.
In 1st gear there was enough fuel in the carb bowl plus what could get past the filter to keep it running good.
Top of second gear on the freeway on ramp it would fall on its face. Run but no power to accelerate. Fuel bowl sucked dry.
Upshift to third and the lower engine speed didn't demand as much fuel and it ran fine.

Only time it was an issue was after a period of high demand, higher RPM in 2nd gear. All it took was a fuel filter.

May also be the accellerator pump in your carb. When you mash the pedal it gives a squirt of raw fuel down into the manifold. If you are not getting an adequate squirt it will fall flat. A carb kit will have the accellerator pump parts in it.
