I posted some about this in the "What Have You Done to Your Bronco" thread, but thought I'd make a stand alone thread for anyone interested. We have a small group doing an overlanding trip on Labor Day Weekend just prior to Super Cel West. Roughly the route ia a circular path beginning in Buena Vista, Colorado on Saturday Sept 3 and arriving back in BV on Tuesday for the start of Super Cel. From BV we go to Tincup, Gunnison, Marble, Glenwood Springs, Kremmling, Empire, Leadville and then back to BV. About 500 total miles - roughly 200 dirt/trails and 300 pavement connecting the trails. One of the highlights will be Crystal Mill. Dirt and trails include some graded dirt roads but most are rated trails green to red.
Basically the same group has overlanded in conjunction with SCW the last 2 years - 2 different routes from BV to Moab. Last year I added a roof rack to hold all the camping gear, a couple Rotopax's and some lights. This year I wanted to improve my 2-way communication ability. Hearing the mounted radio was difficult at any speed above crawling - especially on the highway miles. So I added a powered external speaker. This should solve the problem!
And, more for fun, I added a wireless front camera. It's a Furrion Vision S camera and 4.3 inch monitor. It's designed/sold as a rear view camera for RV's and travel trailers. You can flip and rotate the picture as needed so it also works well front facing too. Monitor suction cups to windshield.
Also the "prep" included new front shocks, new adjustable track bar, oil change and fluid top-off and generally going over the entire Bronco and tightening bolts and screws!
Should be a fun trip this year!
