Pro-Flo 4 Hood Clearance

I'm about to go with the Edelbrock Pro-Flow 4 (#35930) on my 302 that currently has a Weiand #8011 and Edelbrock Performer series carb. My current air filter is a 3". As it stands, the back crossmember of the OEM stock style hood just kisses the filter on closing. Any one else replace a similar setup with Pro-Flow EFI and NOT encounter a hood clearance issue? Given that it's the crossmember hitting the filter, I don't think a scoop would even assist for more clearance. Any tips? Thanks!

I used the old school Duff scoop.
When all was said and done I needed to cut a radius'd chunk of the rear cross member out to clear my 14" filter.

So you are correct about the scoop. My filter doesn't even stick out of my hood..... close though....its that rear cross member....
I made a nice radius cut in my cross member but it would have been a lot tougher if I wasn't also cutting the same radius as part of my circular hood cut out under the scoop,

That makes sense in regards to your hood mods. Thx, Bronconut73! I'm assuming you have the Pro-Flow 4? If so, how long have you been running it and do you like it?

I am not but had such a similar clearance issue.

I meant to get you a picture last night but got side tracked.

If I've done all my speculative math right, my proposed EFI setup 'may' only add a mere 1/4" over my current setup. If the case, I may resolve by simply dropping to a 2" low profile air filter. Then arises the concern whether that will be too restrictive for the new EFI intake requirements...!?!

I use a deep drop Edelbrock filter canister.
It might be a 2" drop.

Summit sells a K&N air filter canister that is supposed to flow great/better than a regular one and it's design makes it a bit of a dropped base air filter canister so I am presuming the dropped air filter canister won't hurt your flow so much your efi will notice.

Hey guys,
I wanted to follow up on this thread. Did the Pro Flo 4 end up cleaning the hood on the 302, or were hood modifications needed?
Thanks.
