Now that I have my spring rates somewhat figured out, I’ve been having a blast wheeling it. I had a chance to go to Windrock for the Ultimate Off Road Fieldtrip and wow I learned a lot about my rig.
I learned about all of the new noises it makes… I learned that one day at Windrock will break in your new coilovers to the tune of 1.5” of reduction in ride height.
I learned that while I made one hell of a rock crawler, I did not build a rig capable of the skinny pedal shenanigans that are necessary on a wet trail day at Windrock. Every jamb nut on my suspension came loose, half of the link mount bolts came loose. My new long wheelbase and long driveshaft make for easy rock food.
So, built myself some belly armor.
I just got back from Good Evening Ranch playing on some big rocks and tore my Trac Bar mount off at the frame, trail repaired it and that made it for another day before it really tore out my frame.
All fixable stuff. Break, fix, repeat.
But I noticed that on one rock that I took a bad line on, tipping myself as far over as I’d ever felt before (was sure I was going over), that I have really bad body lean. Once I saw the photo from the front and saw the angle on my axle shaft versus my hood line, I knew that there had been little chance of going over, but in another situation with momentum it might be possible that the body could pull me over?
Anyone have suggestions on how to solve this? Stiffer springs, less droop via shorter limit straps, front sway bar?
