Rear Inward Facing Jump Seats?

I've been watching eBay for a set of 4 rear inward facing jump seats... saw a set in a 90's Landrover Defender and it looked pretty sweet and functional. Would also seat 4 kids, and fold up when not in use for storage. I also looked at some out of an Toyota FJ40, but they didn't look very sturdy.

Anyone done jump seats, have a source, etc.? Defender seats are going for a ton of $ on ebay, and it would seem like some out of a pickup might work just as well for about lot less.

Thanks!

That was brought up about a year ago (or somewhere around there) and nobody came forward and said that they have done it, although that might hhave changed. Maybe you could be the first to attempt it.... but are the LR defenders as narrow as a bronco? Would seem a little tight to me but would look cool.

Was toying with a similar idea to conserve space but have not come up with an execution as of yet. Problems - my roll cage back there has a post that runs ~45 degress up from the floor not parallel with the floor - so mounting there is difficult. That combined with the size and shape of the wheel well right below seems awkward.

Maybe there is an idea or two here that could be used as a point of departure:

Also other applications where confined space is an issue like the back of a small Cessna puddle jumper i.e. a C-152 or C172, Pipercub, etc. or the interior cabin of a small boat - just food for thought in case you might have a parts source.

Please post if you come up with something - I would be interested in a solution myself.

I would measure the height above the fender wells first. I suspect that only the very short would be able to sit like that and it would be very uncomfortable.

i saw it done once. the person had notched the fenders so the seats sat lower. i don't remember the specifics, but it wasn't a great design. the seats have to be kinda small for anyone to have any leg room too.

get your tape measure out and do some psypherin'.
as mentioned unless you plan to sit some really small kids, you have no head room. have you gone and tried to sit on the wheel tub in the back?
it's done in the rovers & fj, but those trucks also have spring under axles, so the wheels don't get as high up into the body, hense a lower wheel tub.
anything is possible with time & money. maybe you'll be the first to come up with a good functional design and set the standard for others to follow.
