How do I do this? I go the ford tool from Advanced Autoparts that works on "90% of fords out there," and explorer 5.0 is in the other 10%. What did you guys use to get this thing off?

Thanks!!

I was able to use a pair of channel locks. Its only mocked up, but it appears to be pretty tight....

Lonesouth, I actually got that one you sent with the fan off with the tool I bought at autozone. The tool I bought (big ass wrench) says it doesn't list the 5.0, but it will work with no problem. Keep in mind that the fan nut goes counter clockwise to loosen. In other words if you are looking at the fan as it's mounted on the motor then the fan goes to you left to loosen, it's a bitch till you get it moving and then it should get easier and spin off.

Thanks, i'll try that. Did you use the big spanner? wrench to hold to waterpump from spinning or a strap wrench or something else?

I used a "hand"-wrench, it was enough to get it off-on, but I will probably try a spanner or strap on final install.

Nope I didn't, I used a really long thick screwdriver and wedged in between the water pump pullley bolts and tightened/loosened the fan. Trust me when I say you are not going to really be able to get a lot of torque on the fan when tightening the fan down.

I.e. back the screws out a little to give something to brace against?

No Way No How!

This thing is not gonna budge!!! Going to call one of the dealerships tomorrow and see if they will loosen it for me. I mean that thing is ON there. Thanks for the suggestions though.
