Replacing front section of Hardtop

Does anyone make a replacement panel for the front of the hardtop. I need the first 4 to 6 inches of the entire hardtop. The drip rail has rusted away from the top.

Mike over at Bronco Design has had a hardtop roof skin on his site; listed as under development. He also has the half-cab roof skin. Give him a call and see what he can do. Might be a better option than that much body work. But if you want to do it - maybe he would be willing to lay-up a section for you? (not trying to speak for the man)

Tom's and the Graveyard sell a whole hard-top skin but not a section that can be grafted in. Or just salvage the top skin from an old top where the side panels are beyond repair - unlikely but you never know.

Maybe do an end run around the whole issue and go soft top? They do show up used from time to time at a reasonable price - and you do live in Florida ;)

what i have learned is that the halfcab top and the full topare a little different. the full top is a little taller then the halfcab. the easyest way to fix it is to find a doner top and cut and splice it together. this is what i did for my halfcab project

When I got my half cab it was rust out in the front too all the way accross the front. Not saying this is the correct way but I removed the rust and filled mine with "pig" putty better known as Epoxy putty. I sanded it all down and then refilled the drip rails. Bolted it on and it's been on for about 10 years now. My drip rail was complete it was the top that was rusted out......

A proper repair is the way to go but I had no donor to.

I just repaired one. Didn't come out perfect, but you have to really be looking to notice. I just cut out all the old, rusty metal and patched in a replacement piece of metal across the front. The mounting holes were shot too, so I cut that out and welded in new metal there as well. The top was free, so it was worth the time and effort to do the fix. May not last me more than a few years, but it keeps the rain out. I'll try to post pictures when I get home.

I thought I had some pictures of the finished product, but can't find them. I sanded it down pretty smooth and used seam sealer in the gutter. Turned out good enough for my use. I'll try to get better pictures when the rain stops here.

Chief - the HT repair looks pretty good, but there must've been something crazy going on in the shop that day. There's a body hammer, a screwdriver and a muffler laying on the floor! Those don't add up :)

Ha, ha...limited space in my two car garage. The screwdriver was used to push the metal pieces outward from behind as I tacked welded each piece. I had to use what metal I had on hand to do this. Not that pretty, but effective.

LOL! I usually work in the same manner. Whatever gets the job done even if it isn't the tried and true method. ;D
