So, I have everything other than fuel pumps to do an EFI swap on the 302. The EFI I have is speed density, I know I should go MAF, but this is what I have. I am going to try to modify the factory harness for this conversion, but I cant find any info on this. Everything I find is about the mass air flow wiring. Can anyone give me some insight on what wiring to use and what to delete? I hope someone else has done this. The oldfuelinjection.com site is no longer working, so I cant use that.

I will dig through my folder. I have some of the diagrams printed out from when I did mine, and when we did Todd's. I used a Haynes and Chilton manual a lot to compare the pin number and color. From what I remember the wiring is the same from speed density to MAF, except with MAF you have to add three wires for the MAF and change computers. I do remember that not many of my colors matched so I stripped the harness completely open and went from the computer to verify wire colors and locations.

What car is the engine from. You can order a factory wiring guide off of e bay. For as little as 10 bucks. It really helped me especially if you use the stock harness

From what I can recall all you have to do is change the computer to a MAF(6AL etc) and add the 3 wires for the MAF. I figure it was done to save money when they changed vehicles over to MAF in 88ish, not to make it easy on us :)

Yea, I want to say I started with 60 wires coming out of the computer and ended up only using 12-14. Honestly the Chilton and Haynes were the biggest help. I had the floor of my 20X30 shop covered with books, diagrams and wiring.. it was a scary sight. One of my buddies saw it and said it made him feel a little sick... but he had confidence :) It is running like a champ in Todd's rig. It was in mine first and I thought it was causing issues so I put a Ryan's harness in mine.. come to find out it was the wrong rotor under the dist cap...it was loose. But the Ryan's harness was plug n play.

Load it up and bring it up to Abilene and we will figure it out :)

I run a Speed Density setup from an 86 Mustang, and that harness compared to a Mass Air from a later Mustang is very similar. I am not sure how it stacks up to a harness and computer from a Non-HO Mustang, but I suppose that depends on the computer you're using as well.

I removed the EGR and all of the AC wires on mine. There is no VSS and I used the existing oil pressure and water temp wires for the gauges. Added the four relays and it worked like a champ.

Engine runs great for my needs. I think the previous post about getting the right documentation is the best advice anyone has provided.

Good luck

Rich

I am just trying to wrap my head around it all. Looking at the harness, it seems like there is a hundred different plugs and clips on it that have to go to something.

My 90 Lincoln town car motor is basically the same as the Mar harness the wire are there but that was a conversion year. Look up 1990 Lincoln town car engine in a bronco. Some guy put one in a bronco ll and has what wires you need to connect. To get it running.

What computer do you have? Check the label and post it.

For what it's worth... I was helping someone over the phone a couple of weeks ago and we determined that the S/D harness that he had was nearly indentical to the MAF harness.
The differences we found were in the emissions components TAB, TAD, etc...(which are usually removed anyway) and VSS. Well, and MAF, obviously.
There are writeups all over the web, but if you end up needing a quick answer feel free to PM me for my number.

Not turning up anything on a VE2 computer. Sounds right though, mine is a VR1.

Anyway here is the link to the internet archive site that has the cached version of oldfuelinjection.com

http://web.archive.org/web/20140103130242/http://oldfuelinjection.com/

It's all still there for your reading pleasure. Also, I would take EFI Guy up on his offer to help, he is the most technical EFI guru on here, and his help could be invaluable. ;D

Are you planning to make the Memorial Day Run at K2? I found my folder with print outs and notes that I used to do my conversion. I can make copies and bring it to you, or put it on a disk in PDF format and mail it.
