UGH....man.....If you ship it back (on your dime) they could very well say it was just the gasket and YOU were the cause. Then they have your motor and more than likely charge you to ship it back......and charge you to put on a new gasket.

BY CHANCE...does it have a "heat tab" on the block? LKQ uses them (I'm sure other suppliers do to) on used engines they ship out so if issues come up they can tell if the engine was overheated. I bet not but worth a look. Should be stuck in the engine block. Looks like a big button.

If it has a heat tab....I would send it back as the tab shows it wasn't overheated.

If no tab.....I would consider the engine YOURS and YOURS to fix. That's just me and how I look at buying an engine from some not local shop.

With that much water it should be easy to see the issue once the head is off. It could also be the block. My guess is something cracked when the head was torqued down. Lets hope it's just a gasket issue but from my experience, head gaskets are hard to screwup unless you put them on backwards.

I would pull the head.....

My mind is.... fingers crossed its a gasket... but the time it takes for me to pull the motor, strip it, ship it is going to be way more of a hassle and time sink than pulling the head. Now, once I pull the head if its the head itself then thats a different story so lets hope its the gasket. I'll pull it this weekend.

I would ship the engine back. bearings don't like to chew on coolant. Neither do rings and walls. You have run this a fair bit with coolant mixing in.

I was going to post the same comment until I read this far and saw your. Way back in the olden days when I worked in an automotive machine shop, we put one of those buttons on the end of each head before anything we rebuilt went back out the door.

Those heat tabs that I've seen all looked like they were bonded on with an epoxy like J-B Weld or similar.

Pulled the head. Check out the two photos with circled items. Thoughts? The photo with two circled is the bottom of the gasket. The red arrow points to a hole in the gasket that I am pretty sure isnt supposed to be there.... no other holes like this in gasket. Also that red arrow points to where pretty much exactly in my video it was peeing.

PS.. I did find the heat tab on the head.. its not melted but i already pulled head before i found

Replace the head gasket.. so far so good.. pressure tested the cooling system for an hour and lost only 1 PSI and no coolant out the oil drain. Driven it about 50 miles so far.. looking good. Fingers crossed

Wow, nice job getting it back together and running so quickly. And congratulations, if the pressure holds. We’re all hoping it’s done!
