HELP!! I am thinking that my steering stabilizer shock is not mounted correctly. My bronco is a 1966 with a straight 6. Dana 30. Not sure what other info you guys need. I am looking at putting power steering on my rig and I just ordered new C bushings so they will be going on as well so I wanted to change the steering shock too but I want it to go back in the correct way. What do you guys think?

No it's not mounted correctly. It should go from the tab on the drag link(near the pitman arm) to the frame crossmember. Looks like you are missing the bracket that mounts to the bottom of the crossmember and the one for the drag link. They are available as repros from most of the vendors.

The way it is mounted now is a really bad idea.

Your angles look way steep too.

It's possible that you could have a very early '66 that did not have a stabilizer shock from the factory, but I think we've long since determined that this is not the case? Seems like some of the earliest '66 owners have chimed in during past discussions on this and they did have them too.
Your clue would be to look for two holes in your crossmember that go all the way though top to bottom for long bolts. Obviously you've already got the welded on tab for the u-bolt bracket, so you're good there.
You could even take your other bracket and drill two holes and source long bolts to go through the crossmember.

But back to the angles, how much lift is on this rig? Looks tall.
Do you already have a dropped pitman arm (kind of looks that way) and a dropped trackbar bracket (looks like not) mounted?

PO put a 3" suspension lift on it. Please forgive my ignorance as I am new to all of this. I will look for the holes in the crossmember this evening. I am not sure about the pitman arm. Which one is that? I know that I don't have a trackbar bracket but was thinking about getting one but I heard that you only need to do that if you get real bad bronco lean and I am not sure mine has that too bad. It's my understanding that you can either do the drop bracket or get an adjustable track bar. I think the bracket is cheaper. As far as angles which angles are you talking about Paul?

Drag link and track bar should be parallel, is likely what Paul is talking about.

Also your pitman is the arm attached to your steering box/gear.

You need a track bar drop bracket and a dropped pitman arm to get your angles less severe and parallel.

There is an Alabama gang of cb/eb guys.
Keep this thread alive until one of them sees it.

This is a really helpful crowd.

Best bet is to order

A track bar drop bracket
A dropped pitman arm

Prolly other stuff too but those two are a good place to start.

You will likely not need an adjustable track bar. It is only to center your axle under your eb if the drop bracket is not enough.

Here is a pic of underneath the crossmember. It only has one hole. Will this work?
