T18 swap questions

Hi. I've searched with no success to learn about swapping a t18 into an eb. I have the stock rat tranny, but have a friend with a t18 and tc out of a 78. Since the tc is already there I believe there are no issues with the input / output shaft spline count etc.

Is this a worthwhile endeavor? My stock 302 is stuck and will need a complete rebuild. Not sure if I will go that route or go with an efi.

What about t18 and stock crossmembers? Any issues here?

Thanks

kent wash.
A T-18 when used with a advanced adaptor/adaptor (to use dana 20) is 1" longer than a 435 or a stock 3 speed/c4 combo, which moves the transfer case 1" back, which means the front driveshaft is now to short and the cross member would also need to be moved, the transfer case shifter would be moved, and so on and so on. I think it would be a waste of time money and effort to go with that combo.

If the idea is to use the T-18/205 combo from the 78 all the above would be needed change anyway, so the only money saved would be the cost of buying a advanced adaptor/adaptor.

The cheapest way is find a 435 and source a adaptor from advanced or other means that way stock drive shafts stock cross member and transfer case shifter would be unaffected. This is a very popular swap and the most cost affect way of upgrading away from the stock 3 speed.

Thanks for the thoughts. I thought I had read the t18 in stock form was mated to a Dana 20 and in my mind since it has the stock tc with it, the package avoided the need for the adapter and increased front driveshaft length etc.....

You may or may not need to do drivesdhaft mods with a T18 and D20.(its kinda like lift kits ome dont need new driveshafts with 3.5in lifts others do it depends on what you have) also you may not have to modify the crossmember either even if you do its minimal just slot the mounting bracket a little more.

But as was said the NP425 is a little better fit.

Stock transfer case from a '78 would be a NP203 or NP205
The splines and bolt pattern are different then that of the early Bronco D20
Not as simple or as quick of a bolt in, there is adaption needed.

What he just said. I'm running a T-18 w/ NP-205 combo in my '69. Custom crossmember and t-case torque mount required.
