Well, months later...replaced camshaft, lifter. Broke in today, without any leaks, very happy. Also decided to replace all hardware on grill and fenders so when i change the radiator support in near future it will be easy to remove cause of never seize and new fender clips etc.

Its amazing how these jobs move at a snails pace now when you have a full time job and are a full time parent with two kids.

Same issue but mine is most definitely a exhaust issue. I'm pretty sure it is at least since the exhaust is from 1982 TG & Y. Yep

How do you stop this leak? Simply checking if all the bolts are tight? I also have a ticking sound that increases when i push the accelerator.

I would check your header/manifold bolts first. My tick increased as i gave it more throttle and it was obviously coming from the top end of engine. good luck with it. feel free to send a pm if you have any questions.

Really got to watch what oil you use to break-in flat tappet cams now days. Do not use API rated “SL” or “SM” oil. Most cam manufacturers want you to use "race only" oil. Shell Rotella diesel oil is a good one.

Just repaired the valves and top...the ticking noise was due to the rocker arms were not tight against the valve...ie it moved around and hence clicked when it hit the valve etc. Sorted now!

Very true. I used non detergent 30 weight oil and Crane Cam break in lube for my 390FE and had no issues. I followed the builders instructions....
