How many bolts connect the T case to the adapter? is it 6? these bolts are on the front side of the truck, right? once those are removed, just pull back a little and it should drop??? I have a 2 in. lift so I think I can leave the crossmember in place for the time being....

X2 on pulling the rad. Then support tranny with jack, remove crossmember, pull adapter With Tcase. This can be done in under and hour. Less time if you have help.

once you remove the trans there is nothing holding the back of the engine up. i'm guessing your fan can hit the radiator.

It is so the fan does not kiss the radiator and put a hole in it. When you remove the crossmember and start the lower the tranny, the engine and tranny start to pivot back on the motor mounts. If you are not watching, it can pivot back too far and the fan will hit the radiator!

It is a good idea to support the engine with something like a jack, or block, so it does not see saw too far back.

?? Well why wouldnt you just use a floor jack for support. Or remove the fan instead? Seems alot easier than draining and removing the rad.

There would be no way in heck I could remove my fan without taking off the radiator first! It is so tight in there!

Hey,

I hope it's okay to bring this thread back to life.

I have a D-20 attached to a NP-435. I am removing the transfer case to rework for twin sticks.

The exhaust is tight up against the frame cross member that holds up the transmission. The cross member is tight to the front of the transfer case.

My thought is to support the transmission with a floor jack and then remove the bolts that attach the cross member to the frame rails, and then remove the cross member from the transmission. That will give me access to all transfer case bolts from below. I'll probably also need to pull the exhaust.

The option is to cut an access panel in the floor pan.

Will I need to lower the transmission to slide the transfer case off? If so, I can see the point of pulling the radiator. If not, I would like to leave it in place.

Any thoughts since the last post on this thread?

Thanks

Jeff
